Quote: hfc herts "I agree with what was said about his best season being in 2002. That for me sums the club up at the moment. We have had far too many players who have been living off past glory. Part of the furniture and all that. Too much sentiment at the club and indeed on this forum at times.
Bottom line is that Kingy has served the club since he was a teenager. How well he has served the club is open to debate. He had his time and could and possibly should have been a regular at international level, but he clearly didn't want it enough.
I have enjoyed the odd performance from Kingy. I have also been frustrated by him on more than enough occassions. Dropped balls, poor discipline etc etc. Some I think was down to over excitment and wanting to do well, but alot I feel is down to what he allegedly does off the field. I would not begrudge him doing that. Hell my all time fav player is Knocker and boy could he enjoy himself off the field. But times have changed even in Paul's time at the club. We need professional people at the club from top to bottom and if people are not prepared to be professional then I don't see why the club should be paying them.'"
Knocker could have eight pints and still play a good game the next day, others tried and failed.
