Quote cod'ead="cod'ead"It does make you wonder just what the problem is:
The area can produce competitive amateur teams and local players regularly feature in international selection.
The area can produce competitive players, at youth level of the pro game, regularly featuring in international selection.
We manage a grand total of 2 players at elite international level (3 if Wilkin is included as locally developed)
There is a long-standing problem with player identification and development, throughout the game in the Hull area and the sooner the amateur & pro clubs recognise that fact and work towards a solution, I can't see things changing anytime soon'"
Having being involved in the game for a good few years my opinion is the whole system in Hull is bent!! they see players at 12 yrs old and invite them down, then that is more or less it, scouting done...presently there are some better players in 17/18 yrs old range than what are on scholarships at FC & KR.
How the heck these scouts do not realize that development takes 10 yrs and there is a variance of a 4 yr ability range is beyond me, the kids with pure talent I have seen leave the game due to not wanting to play pub rugby at 18 yrs make me want to weep.
