Cas were much more fluid in attack last night where we struggled to ,as the speed and accuracy of the pass let us down time after time .We are well into the season now and our attack still looks clunky to non existent, our try’s came from off the cuff plays as time and time again we squandered last play options and they really looked as clueless as I’ve seen them when we did manage a shot at the Cas line. Danny Richardson was given too much time with ball in hand and ran the show alongside mata’utia and mcshane and apart from milky running his blood to water it certainly didn’t look like we were up for this supposed big derby clash ,turned out very much a damp squib apart from the odd burst of life . If last night is the extent of how we use a world class winger is it time to chip him in and let him play in a decent coached team who would use him to their advantage unlike us ,did Chester forget he had picked the lad and totally left our main strike player out of the game plan ,cos it looked like it to me. Obviously we all hyped this game up from old times of derby clashes when we used to see blood and thunder on the pitch , last nights effort for me was a pale shadow of those days and left me pondering what do the back room staff actually say to the players to get them up for a game which the fans obviously thought a lot more important than the playing staff looking at that poor lacklustre performance last night .

The performance from both teams seemed sub standard, the short turn round didn't help.
I thought our pack matched Cas but our quality of passing seemed slow.
Lino took a slight step back on that performance and Miller put in his usual stint but even with 2 trys seemed less effective as usual.
That game was there to be taken but in general our attack was clunky and set out for just individual one up rugby.
We have plenty of contract up for renewal and recruitment must be given some kind of priority.

On reflection this was a game we should have won.
We simply didn't take our chances and our defence in midfield made Cas look good.
It's easy to criticise individuals, but IMO it was generally a poor team performance not helped by some individual errors.
I said a few days ago if we played as we did against Huddersfield we would beat them - well I'll amend that - we would have hammered Cas, BUT we were nowhere near as good and Cas deserved to win, because on the night once again, they played better rugby than us.
Consistency is what makes teams good and we are not consistent. Last nights team effort was miles short of the Hudds game.
As for TJ - what a bloody waste of talent!

Quote: Emley Cat "He didn't have to do a lot did he? Our one man Rugby with no support made it easy for them. Our terrible last tackle plays made it easy for them. We have one of the best wingers in the league, we didn't create a single overlap for him, that made it easy for them. We kicked once to the corner for TJ it went out on the full, tried it on the other side, it went sideways. I could go on and on, our performance was poor again. Are Castleford a team of superstars? No, thought not. Is it a hoodoo? Nah I don't believe in such things. 15 in a row says Powell out coaches Chester every single time and this time we handed it to them on a plate.'"

That's not being out coached is it either put up reasons or take the easy option we put it on a plate

I did only see the first 35 minutes but what was clear is that they had been told to retain the ball at all costs. I don’t know if they hoped this would lead to Castleford getting fatigued and making mistakes. It unfortunately did not work because they knew there would be no second phase which is vital when trying to break a team down. I don’t know if Chester realised this and changed it in the second half.

You know if you count up how many games we 'should' have won now this season, we'd be in the top 4?! This is the whole argument against Chester isn't it, too many times when it counts, we just don't deliver when it matters. That performance was like rewinding to 4 or 5 weeks ago, loads of effort and guts, just poor with the ball, last tackle plays terrible, stupid penalties, no cohesion, individuals running down blind alleys etc, etc. I think at half time they had made 7 or 8 handling errors, yet they went in front at the break! Ohhh well I suppose we should be all used to it against them, we just can't seem to perform against them can we?! Very disappointing.

I thought we did well against Hull Kr and better still against Huddersfield but the signs of regression began to appear against Leigh. I suppose we will find out if Chester is capable of stopping the slide.

Castleford play good rugby with a deep attacking line and lots of ball movement and support play and it works really well for them. We resolutely insist on this very flat attack and using our entire three quarter line as battering rams up the middle.

The ironic thing about our gameplan is that it is all focused on metre making and getting into an attacking position, only to have no clue what we are going to do when we get there.

Agreed, I did one too. It's incomprehensible that given our inability to score we make no attempt to repeatedly get our match winning try scorer into the plays. Literally one pass all night to him. What a complete F waste. You can't tell me that the responsibility for that doesn't predominantly lie with the coaching. We look absolutely abysmal with the ball in hand at times. No attacking lines just shoveling it along the line half the time (usually on the 4th tackle after 4 drives). Mind numbing to watch

I don't usually post after we've beaten you as it looks like trolling but I'll make an exception as no one has mentioned hoe slow Wakey's ruck speed was compared with Cas. Watch it back and there are several times when the tackled Trin player could have easily regained his feet and executed a quick play the ball but chose to (unsuccessfully) try to milk a penalty.

Ruck speed was slow on many occasions because of the excessive "holding down" by Cas long after the tackle had been completed.

Top six 2005 - Trinity.:

Quote: Redscat "Ruck speed was slow on many occasions because of the excessive "holding down" by Cas long after the tackle had been completed.'"

There were many fans around me confused by the fact that Cas in the second half got six agains a few times in their own half to really relieve the pressure. Yet in the following return sets we had players landing on their front (Wood, TJ) who had players all over them and then trying to wrestle them while they were trying to get up and execute a quick play of the ball. TJ and Wood I think both had a chela at the ref.

You can hardly blame them. It was that slow they could’ve had a 4 course meal and a few beers.

It’s the inconsistency that confuses people. Moore was giving six again for holding on a second too long in Cas favour and then in the next set allowed players to be wrestled whilst landing on their front.

Can’t blame Cas. If your allowed to do it you will continue doing it. It was frustrating the hell out of me and many others how we were restricted in the wrestle from a number of quick plays.

There’s that much naff refereeing decisions and so many inconsistencies that you just come to expect it these days. Nobody really cares. Cas will face a team on another day and try chancing their arm and a different ref would pull them. The referees have different tolerances for six agains etc that really also doesn’t help.

I thought Matautia was the difference on the night but the officials just infuriate me. They aren’t so much bias than they are inconsistent.
