He has nothing to apologise for!
If anything however, he should get sanctioned for not realising what a touchy bunch the Wakefield supporters are.
A complete non-event being taken completely OTT.

Well the comment was clearly tongue in cheek, it's only hit a nerve because there is an element of truth in what he said.
But I'd rather he didn't provoke the opposition before we've played them in a crucial game.

Completely agree.
What is there to get upset about?? Bradford have more fans than us and will bring a few on Saturday. So what??

There are plenty of ready made excuses for those who don't turn up on Saturday but, for the apathetic fans who follow RL but, the main one will be the fact that it's on TV and the average "floating" Wakey supporter has longer pockets than the most stereo typical tight fisted Yorkshire man that anyone knows.
The pubs and clubs will be packed to the rafters but it would be a major surprise if we get more than 4000 folk in BV on Saturday, especially as it is only the most important game in Wakefields history.
Wakefield simply have to win this one or, we will very likely be relegated.
So, forget your excuses and splash out the 20 or 22 quid and get down to BV.
It will be a cracker of a game, with plenty on it for both clubs and a few extra vocal fans, just might make the difference.
Don't find an excuse not to go, find a reason to be there !

| I agree. It's really irritating when the guy from Bradford or Huddersfield fans or even Salford fans poke fun at our crowd numbers.
Now is the time to be able to answer them back. We need to show a packed house on prime (ish) time TV.

| If anyone thinks that Wakey fans will outnumber the Bradford fans, it won't happen. Some of the die hards have been driven away by the attitude of the club, and the casuals probably don't care. The long term damage was inflicted when MC took too long to sack Agar and then Webster.

| I know of at least 4 regulars who aren't going due to a variety of reasons. Can see the crowd being about 50-50.

Bradford fans are perfectly entitled to (if that is your thing) due to their numbers but Salford and Huddersfield have a bloody cheek. There are more bodies in the local mortuary than seen in the stands of Huddersfield or Salford.
Still, bickering over the amount of supporters a team have is pathetic. Bradford SHOULD have more fans due to the size of the city and the population it has. (In fact, I could suggest that given the target zone that Bradford has then their crowds are actually very poor.)
I also have not got the time (nor the inclination) to compare but I suspect that, per head of population, that Wakefield have a far better percentage turnout than the three aforementioned sides have too.
It annoys me at time that people resort to popularity in order to state their claim for superiority. Unlike many clubs, (my own included (Bradford)) I suspect that Wakefield (no dig intended here) do not have their numbers swelled by glory hunting fans that change their team more often than they change their pants. A decent hardcore of RL fans who care about their club.
Despite my regular "wind-ups" on here, Wakefield are a "proper" RL club and, if the size of their following is about the worst people can say about them, then they most be doing something very well as a club elsewhere. It is petty TBH.
I hope the people of Wakefield AND Bradford turn up in their numbers on Saturday so that the cameras will show what the game means to both sides and their fans. I have read on here by some that it is the biggest game in the history of Wakefield RL and, whilst I am not qualified to comment on that, it is certainly the biggest game you have had since a Solomona inspired WTW did us over at Odsal to keep you in SL (2006???). I seem to recall you had a great turnout that day.
As for Bradford, it is certainly the biggest game we have had since the GF of 2005 and perhaps the biggest in decades. Win Lose or Draw, the match will be decided by the 17 men on the pitch and their respective coaching teams and NOT the amount of fans paying through the gates.
Sadly I will have to watch it on the TV (down for Salford at Odsal next week) but I hope that it is a good advert for the game.
I obviously want a Bradford win, as opposed to most on here. But I want the superiority ON the park, rather than in the stands.

Don't always agree with you but on this one you're spot on.
Carters attitude to fans IMO is poor - that alone though wouldn't put many off - however combine that with 2 stinking seasons and you have a recipe for disaster.
It's just my opinion but under the Carter regime the club has slumped to it's lowest point since the start of SL in the mid 90's but with less mitigating circumstances.
I conservatively think we've lost 20% of our fan base and get no casual interest at all any more.
Carter and his cronies on here can fantasise all they wish about balancing books living within your means - that's fine if at the same time you are not systematically stripping away the goodwill of many fans.
I'll be honest I generally hate going to matches these days and I never travel away - I turn up out of loyalty only - I don't like the attitude of the stewards or the club in general which IMO is contemptuous, but that's just my opinion. The dismal on field fair is a little more obvious and his inability to sack his buddies has damaged an already fragile club beyond immediate repair.
What sums up this regime to me is the utter devotion and loyalty shown to two dreadful coaches whilst a long serving and loyal fan was hounded out of the club for the sake of a coke bottle - make of that what you will I dare not say anymore.
The club urgently needs an injection of the positive and for me this regime just doesn't get it - even when they give with one hand they take with the other.
Rant over.

Agreed.
It's debatable whether following wakefield has ever reached the dictionary defination of 'enjoyable' but it sure as hell isn't anymore if it did. In fact i find it is more of a chore now that i have to do now to get value out of the season ticket i bought out of habit. I'm afaid whatever the divison we are in next year it is a habit that is about to be broken.

Can't disagree with what yuou say at all. It is a shame so many have been put off going.
I hope Brian Smith's arrival and a more positive team will help things a long but Carter's style does not help that at all.

I also have to agree. I feel that Mr Carter was the right man at the right time, we needed major cut backs and austerity and we got it in bucketloads. He made some tough decisions no doubt with all the best intentions and the club financially is more stable than for a while and he deserves a lot of credit for doing so.
BUT, is he the right man from here on in? I'd say no, probably not. His curt style does him no favours and the first thing he should do is get off social media as he is doing himself no good there. He has alienated many fans with his policy changes, the alteration to the kick off time, matchday changes etc and now the notice given on Belle Vue and whilst he has many supporters he now has just as many detractors as well. I don't believe he has the first idea on how to grow the club as it is not in his DNA to do so. He is an accountant and obviously a damn good one at that, but a businessman he is not, selling your dads bus firm and becoming wealthy off the back of it is a canny move but you don't have to be Richard Branson to see it was a no-brainer. Any business needs some level of specualtion in order to grow and that is something he seems very reluctant to consider. He claims there is no money but i dispute that. Even a relatively small amount could generate more than expenditure and twice as much in goodwill if spent wisely but rather than that we spent the money on players that probably were not needed. Did we need Yates right now when there is Kavanagh, Kirke and Annakin sat waiting already not in the team with Simon at loose? Why have we bought 3 fullbacks in Locke, Smith and Tansey recently? And why now do we have 4 hookers all of a sudden? The vast majority of these players were not improvements and whilst the squad did need filling out a little and some signings were necessary there seems to have been an element of panic buying anything available without looking at the bigger picture. This money could have been spent elsewhere and it tells me the club is looking so short term that MC feels there maybe is no future for it which is no way for the chairman to be thinking. I don't want this to seem like an attack on him as it is not meant to be and i respect him and thank him for what he has done to keep us going but the future of MY club is in grave danger as we are and something has now to change. Everybody has their limits and i feel MC has probably reached his and to be honest probably would like to get out for his own and families sake.
We don't want to go back to the Glover era of boom and bust and but neither do we want the club to continue as it is as if it does all MC's good work will be in vain as it will wither and die anyway. It would be nice if someone with unlimited funds would breeze in and 'invest' a fortune but realistically it isn't going to happen. But MC has said before that he'd sell it for a quid, so a savvy true businessman is what we need, one with the full skill set to grow this club even if it drops to the championship. Lets be honest there isn't anybody going to come in and asset strip the club as we haven't any assets! Unless they are desperate for a new cheap computer chair and half a dozen bottles of pop that is. The question has to be is there anybody with the tools for the job out there willing to take us on and move us forward? Maybe it is time for a public statement welcoming any interest to at least test the water before that very same water drowns us.
