Some on the Wigan board said they'd sold 1500 tickets a couple of days before the game, as far as I'm aware that Western terrace holds that many and it was far from full, the East stand and it's terracing was spread out as well so who knows, so long as the Wigan fans deposited they're hard earned in the ground and we made a few quid as well I'm happy icon_biggrin.gif
Back to reality this morning though icon_sad.gif

Great first half, really intense but, with all that possession we really needed some more points on the board and were very unfortunate not to go in at least level at HT.
Second half was a different matter altogether.
Whether Wigan raised the tempo or, whether we dropped off a bit, I'm not sure but, we couldn't live with them and the early score seemed to take the wind out of our sails.
To beat them, we needed TJ, Miller and Fifita playing and to play well for 80 minutes.

Gutted that we haven't made it through to the next round (again) icon_biggrin.gifEPRESSED:

Quote: asmadasa "If they are injured fair enough I didn’t read that anywhere but why put 3 injured players in your 21 for the game?
I thought we’d lose 32

Fifita hasn't played since Warrington away in the league I don't think? Obviously it was gonna be touch and go with Tom having come off against Salford. I didn't know Miller was any kind of doubt myself. Let's not forget, we did win at Wire in the last round without Fifita & TJ, yesterday was just a step too far, I think it's unrealistic to be winning 5, 6 games on the trot. If we lose 4 out of the next 5, then fair enough, people would say it was a fluke maybe winning those 2 at wire, but I would settle for winning 3 out of the next 5, even 2 maybe would be a good start given the fixtures we have already had. It will do my head in though if we lose to Cas again..... icon_evil.gif

I thought Gaskell had an exceptional kicking game against Wigan. He consistently landed the kicks on the Wigan try line allowing us several repeat sets. This quality of kicking and rugby intelligence is something that Miller doesn't possess among his several good qualities. We really need to find a way to have Gaskell on the field. Perhaps put Miller to replacement hooker.

We came up against a well drilled side that seems to have found that culture bite back.
On the whole we came second best
To a very workmanship display and it's give the club a good look at what can be achieved.
Let's see we're WP can take us, I'm quite hopeful on what I have seen to date

We are going way over the top with the move Miller to sub hooker shout Miller as been in the team of the week twice playing at 6 Every body is pointing out Gaskell put kicks on the Wigan line Sorry in 80 minutes of rugby I want a 6 who can defend well ,take on the line Did not see any of this from Gaskel ,Miller and Lino have looked like the best 6 and 7 we have had on the park together for a long time .I say keep Gaskel l in the reserve

Gaskell can’t tackle and is slow.

Give Gaskell a run at loose and leave Miller and Lino to cement their partnership ,he’s got a great pair of hands, great vision and an astute kicking game ,simply no good to us not being in the squad .Hopefully he can keep him fit and I’m sure we will see the benefit from his experience especially having another point of attack

Worrying thing about the Salford win and the wigan defeat was that in both games we had a great attacking first half, but poor defensive second with little or no trys to show for it. People on this forum have mentioned how much fitter we appear to be this season, yet we've reverted to being only a 40 minute team as before. Makes me a bit concerned about the Cas game with only a five day turn around.

No way Ketty.
These days, loose forward is equivalent to a ball playing prop forward and they need to do heaps of graft in the middle,
Gaskills is a long way from being that player.
He can play in most of the positions in the backs but, let's not shove him at the back of the pack just to have him on the field.
In a way, he is the new Hampshire for us and there are better players in each of the positions that he can cover.
Obviously, if someone is injured he should get the gig and then show that he is the man for the job.

Miller & Lino have been going great and if they are fit, they have to be our halves.

Lol wrencat Gaskill is to slow to play in the backs he could not get across against Wigan to cover .Some are on about playing him in pack That would weaken the pack big time .Who would he replace JC, Batch,.To take out one of the other forwards out would give us a light pack .And J C and Batch do a lot of tackling No, just play him when we got to
