Quote: Fordy "Not sure I have missed your point.
You say a community stadium could be anywhere in the district and then say that Glasshoughton is the only option??
I say - why? Glasshoughton is no closer to having a stadium built on it than Newmarket is at this point in time.'"

According to Steve Gill's interview in this weeks League Express it is.
Also the date for the closure of the M62 slip roads to link with the site has been moved forward from June to April.
I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

I do post on your board a bit, was there finally any truth in the rumour that security were being told to vacate the site in the coming weeks, seems odd when there's so much heavy machinery on site?

Quote: vastman "Correct.

I also find it hugely frustrating that the best and most realistic option is unavailable to us long term due to it being about 400 meters outside of Wakefield.

Anybody know if we could force a boundary change?

Even then Box would probably conspire to stop us playing there.'"

Wouldn't that be a bit unfair on Dewsbury, our hosts, Vastman??

Yep it would but desperate times desperate measures. Frankly I don't really see what the issue is with the RFL as regards playing in another area - it's daft that we could share with Cas but we can't share with Dewsbury long term.

I've seen your posts and they are always reasonable and you seem to be given the respect you deserve.
I passed the site on Wednesday and there were half a dozen cars outside the portacabins but no sign of movement.
I don't know how to do links and its quite a long interview with SG so I'll give you the main points.
Site developers have overseen some key advancements in recent weeks.
Support cables for supplying electricity have been installed under the field where the facility (ground?) will be sited.
A number of new companies have also signed up to become tenants of the complex in recent weeks.
The next phase of development will see the highways around the site constructed, with work set to commence around new year time.
Gill admitted unforeseen issues had set back construction on a couple of occasions but insisted he is happy with the speed at which the stadium is coming together.
One of the sources of finance did pull out but another was quickly found to step into the breach.
"We're comfortable with the current situation" said Gill.
He goes on to say that it will probably be 2020 hen we move but admits he is in no rush to move out of the jungle as it hasn't been condemned.
I suppose it all boils down to whether you believe SG or not.

I don't think the credibility of SG or MC is in question, I mean, they're only relaying the information they are given, its the dingbats supplying the information that have the questionable agendas.
The longer the Cas stadia inaction goes on, the uneasier I feel about the likely hood it will be even started, let alone completed.
It would give me no pleasure at all to see the Wakey debacle go down to Cas too, but this is the problem with dealing with councils, developers and "entrepreneurial" dingbats, they all struggle to give 2 ***** about anything that doesn't benefit them exclusively.
Seriously...would anyone be surprised if the Cas thing didn't happen ?, I wouldn't, such is the level of ry surrounding these projects.

The last part of your post is the most significant. All credit to SG for pacifiying the Cas fans. There must be a lot of questions from your bunch, same as ours; but I wouldn’t hold your breath, it’s not likely to happen as soon as he says. Trust me.

Quote: Barnsley Tiger "I agree a community facility for the Wakefield district is much needed. One or more of the districts sports clubs as anchor tenant would be great ensuring it is used regularly but the exact location does not matter as long as it is in the Wakefield district surely.
The main criteria for WMDC is how to fund it so it would be the cheapest option for them.
Regarding Castleford / Wakefield, each club has to get the best deal for them to ensure a future but as it stands at the minute Glasshoughton seems to be the only one on the table.
I personally support Wakefields campaign but think there is not a lot of mileage in chasing the council as time is not on the clubs side maybe.'"

When I posted this last week about a community stadium being anywhere in the borough and it being for any club not necessary Wakefield Trinity, it was seized upon as a go at Wakefield Trinity. My point was WMDC may build a community stadium without Trinity being anchor tenants, thus getting them out of any issues concerning Newmarket.

My post about a ground share being a different issue entirely but I still worry that the RFL are keeping quiet and are not helping Wakefield. Lets hope they are behind the scenes and all will come good.

Unless you are talking about 2 "H's" and a park bench, there is more chance of it raining £10 notes.

Aside from Cas and Wakeifeld, who would play at a purpose built 12,000 capacity stadium in Wakefield ??
And for this reason, you still appear to be trolling.

The bullsh** in the Wakefield Express a few weeks ago about "building a ground anyway", really was the biggest mickey take ever and the people responsible for giving that to the press aren't fit to run a playgroup, never mind a district council.

Is there any coincidence with the community work that has recently been happening in Barnsley.

Oakwell is a decent stadium but maybe too far away I feel

I think Barnsley would be a good choice ,nice ground ,reasonable distance and a chance to get away from mr box wmdc and our new landlord do for me.

Also when I worked in Barnsley many years ago a few of the Barnsley lads used to watch Wakefield and some of them to get on about the great trinity side of the 1960s so we could get a bit of local interest if we did play there.

Obviously, I don't know the ins and outs and finer details of everything that's going on atm, but if we are well and truly done in Wakefield and our next best bet for next year is Dewsbury or Feath. I think to keep our SL licence and this team together long term those places currently don't offer that imo.
If it was any way financially viable and the BFC owners are up for it, Barnsley is probably our best hope of a SL future imo at least for the next few years. For those in charge, things like naming rights of the stadium, sponsorship and what deal we get on drinks & food on matchday etc, will be affected anywhere we go. Plus would we have to change our name if it was for the foreseeable future?

Trying to be slightly positive about it, maybe any lost fans that may not fancy the trip over, might be taken up by locals gradually, especially if we're playing good RL near the top of the League.

Ateotd though who knows. It's absolutely sickening as a fan and I know we all feel the same. We finally can see things starting to come together on & off the pitch and the Clubs being run in a sensible sustainable way for once & we've got this constantly in the background hanging over our heads. Generally, it's the other way around. icon_frustrated.gif icon_frustrated.gif icon_frustrated.gif
