| He's returning a far better player than the one that left, and how much more would we have to pay for some average or over the hill aussie to do exactly the same job. That said I'm not doing somersaults at his signing but he's solid and as he is quoted as saying " he has unfinished business at Belle Vue" lets hope it works out right

Because some of us don't rate him as player. Personally I don't think he's as good as Tim Smith so I'm worried we're already worse off than last season. Doesn't mean I'll stop going though. I am, however, quite looking forward to see how Sean Morris goes for us. Could be a good 'project' for us.

On paper Liam Finn isn't as good as Tim Smith, but in reality LF is a steady no nonsense player and plays to one level, TS however can up his game to a different level, but how many times this season has he, he has been incredibly poor in my opinion.
I still believe LF is an improvement, he'll get us near the opposition try line and put in a good kick putting the defence under pressure. TS kicks were kick and hope, usually going dead and relieving pressure on the defence.

I agree about Smith's kicking game, I've never really rated that, but I don't think he's been as poor as people make out. Our forwards have been dire all season, and it's got to be the most toothless three quarter line I've ever seen at Belle Vue so I think any half back would struggle to work with what we've had.

Some good points there IWTID,but you must admit that the final play on 99% of our sets have been very poorly executed throughout last season. It must have been bad as I'm the last poster to bag any Trin player.

TS (when he wants to play) is not just better than LF but better than most SL halfback - but again only WHEN.
However it wasn't a playing issue that got him sacked it was his own stupidity - I'm sure there would have been a deal for him has he wanted it if he'd stayed sober. Team discipline is hard work, and it's a nightmare when it's probably your best player. But you just can'y have a rule for one and Smith rightly IMO went. It's sad but it may well have a very positive effect on his ex team mates. Well see.

I think 99% is a bit harsh bit I agree they could have been better, but then again so could the first 5. I think we'd bigger problems than Tim Smith this season, but he seems to have taken the brunt of the criticism. Having said that, a fully committed Liam Finn or a half hearted Tim Smith and I'd take Finn every time. But without knowing the details, I still think Tim Smith is a better scrum half.

And I agree with that, but I don't know the full facts so I'm basing my judgement on Rugby matters only. If he is a bad influence then yes, it's best to let him go.
Going slightly off topic, now that Smith and Locke have been dealt with I'd like to see the club take a very clear and simplistic approach to discipline next year starting at the top right down to the very bottom. Things like social media needs to be addressed, the chairman is the prime example, but also his office staff, back room staff and players. Kirmond's outburst after the Widnes game was embarrassing and Carter should have pulled him up for that, not joined in. All stories of players behaviour and training antics need nipping in the bud, but even down to the stewards and everyone involved in the match day experience. A line was drawn in the sand when Smith and Locke went, everyone at the club now knows that Carter and Smith are not afraid of making tough, non-rugby related decisions. Carter especially needs to lead by example and keep the tough line approach going and go about changing the perception of the club which he is certainly doing with the finances. Non of this will cost money and should be a starting point for us to starting gaining back some credibility which I think we lost last season.
