I don’t think we utilise our wingers enough. I’d love to see us develop some scrum moves to get them on the outside shoulder of an opponent more often. In my opinion when you see one of your best attacking talents in TJ packing down in a scrum the coach has got something badly wrong.

There's a bloke stands near me who constantly shouts at TJ in particular to 'stay on yer bloody wing! Wot yer cutting inside for!'. Even when there's a 3 man reception committee waiting for him on the touchline he should 'bloody back imself'.

Modern RL is a different game to the one he thinks he's watching. For Sts try from the kick (3rd try I think) he said it must've been offside 'cos no one can score a try from a kick like that without being offside. I pointed out to him that the big screen showed he was clearly onside but no, it was a trick of the camera angle.

Quote: bren2k "So it's just the one game you have an issue with?

It's a very simplistic view to say "chuck it to the fast lads" - yes they can score, and yes we'd all like to see them get more service; but don't kid yourself that every team who is due to play us doesn't do video in advance and devise a defensive strategy that prevents us from doing so - because they'll respect the pace and strength of TJ and BJB as much as we do.

Saints defended against our strongest points of attack very well - that's all.'"

No! What I'm saying is that Daddycool was trying to show by statistics that they must get the ball wide at regular intervals but it doesn't appear to look that way when watching the game, particularly last Thursday. Just imagine how high their try scoring records would be if they did receive the ball wide. RL and BT's try scoring totals this season indicate how often the ball does not reach the wingers. Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining, it's purely an observation.

I understand your sentiment but it just doesn't work that way.
Passing the ball to the wing more often does not simply equate to more tries or even more running chances.
It probably would equate to more wingers being tackled in to touch and losing possession.
Everybody has a role to play in a wingers try. It's not often it is a simple piece of individual brilliance though we are blessed to have seen some.
Defense has to be moved about and field position gained over and over before the final move.
More quality ball to the wing...... Yes I'm behind that...... But that's a big thing to ask, not a flaw in a game plan.

That was exactly my point; chucking it to the fast lad may work in junior rugby, when one freakishly fast kid running at a dog's hind leg defensive line will usually come up trumps - but in modern SL, with very organised and committed defence, it will more often than not mean that the winger is held up by his opposite number, until his centre arrives and they bundle said winger into touch - or deck him.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see BJB and TJ with more chances, but it's much more difficult to create those chances these days; and the modern winger is a much more rounded role than it was when they were just muscular touch judges - they have more to do, including running the ball out from their own 20, which both of ours do very well.

Imo if TJ had played the last 3 seasons on Cas left wing (and without injury) he likely would have scored about 100 tries. How Cas have supplied Solomona, Eden, Minikin etc is what i was alluding to really, more of those kind of plays please?
