All in the middle league would revert to zero points.

I would say winning the league 4 years in a row makes them most consistent

Which should be enough in my book for you be promoted on any given year but under this proposed new system the chance of you getting promoted would be significantly reduced.

| Quote: deeHell "Of course it should be difficult to earn but at the same time it should be fair. At least swapping the best of the Championship with the worst of SL doesn't give the SL clubs a back door chance (that heavily favours them) to beat the drop. At least promoted in the traditional way it gives the promoted club a chance of performing on the same financial resources and the same opportunity to maintain their SL status.'"
The problem with that though was the timescale.
Recruiting players in sufficient numbers of the right standard and then forming them into a team usually meant that the big financial gamble failed.
This way there is an incentive to build a team slowly and have a crack at it each year. When they do get promoted it more likely to last longer.

Which under the way RL operates means nothing in the grand scheme of things, Sheffield are the champions and they are the most successful and consistent club at that level.

Depends which way you look at it. The fact is that Fev have won far and away more games over the past four years than Sheffield and of course are the best supported club outside of SL. What I'd like to see is all three local clubs battling it out at top level. This scheme provides a pathway to do just that if the clubs get their act together. What a shot on the arm that would be for RL in the area

But that makes no difference, it still comes down to a play off series. I've never liked the system and for me consistany should be rewarded but ultimately you could win every league game 50 nil but lose in a final and not be the champions. And this new system is not going to improve matters one jot for championship clubs.
For me if we have to have P&R then one up and one down, the bottom club drops, the top, most consistant, championship club is promoted. The team that does drop then has an even chance of getting back up the following year without having to try and beat four pro teams who have a massive advantage.

| Personally I will watch Wakefield regardless of which competition we are in and hope, one day, to see them actually win something. Based on how they finished last season, a second tier round-robin comp between the likes of the Bulls, Widnes, Cas, London, Salford, Fev, Fax and ourselves looks very winnable.

| The excitement of Fev fans plays into the RFL's hands; this system is designed to appease the owners of the wealthy clubs, whilst feeding scraps of hope to the top 4 CC clubs. See how excited they are when the stupid system kicks in and they realise that they're *less* likely to win promotion under this assbackwards arrangement than they would have been under straight P&R - which is incidentally what was unanimously voted for, despite the RFL's blatantly dishonest press release.
I'm also waiting to hear what the fate of the 4 clubs at the very bottom of the pyramid who don't fit into this neat new structure will be; and that's before Toulouse and others come knocking. I predict that some clubs will have to merge, or disappear completely.

The financial gamble for promotion in the new rules is still there, I don't see how that can be really eliminated. With a tweaked version of P/R (the promoted club having a years grace) can reduce the the financial gamble of trying to stay in SL. Either way the financial gamble is still an attractive way to go for a lot of clubs in the red zone.

I bet the Fev fans don't care and have not even thought about them.
