We're at a crossorads with John. He isn't going to get first team rugby unless we suffer a huge injury list. That said, it seems the likes of Cowling, Walshaw and Wildie talked about how beneficial their time at Doncaster etc was. For me, John needs to be playing and therefore i'd loan him out.

That is the only way i think we'll ever find out if he's cut out for a sustained run of first team games in SL.

I think John should be given this season to fight his way in, Sykes is getting on and we would be foolish to discard a half back who I thought showed some flashes of quality - despite not really carrying it through.

I went to the majority of the games last season, and the games he played in he played decent. I dont feel that he likes the way fans treat him, giving him beef. Thats knocks every players confidence. We need to get behind him. He has the potential and I was watching the highlights from last season and he did pretty well and starred in a couple of great plays. I completely agree with you there. If Agar didn't want him here he'd be gone. Sykes only signing a one year deal makes me wonder if Agar is going to use John in the future. On loan would help him yes but he will only get used to super league if he plays super league.

Agree with the previous post. Watch the win v Catalans again, if he can build on performances like that he'll be a good'un.

People seem to forget we did win some games prior to the 7 in a row and when John was swapped for Sykes and Ellis came in for Aiton and the catalans game at home was one game that we really played well as a team for most of the game, just ran out of steam and ideas

What about Tim Smith he looked 10x a better player with Sykes. John held him back. The games I saw John in he was way off some of you must watch with tinted goggles on or drunk. That game against Salford he was running in treacle catching Joel Moon. You are kidding yourself if you think it was just his goalkicking ball in hand his kicks were awful.

I have to admit when Sykes was put at stand off it allowed Smith to just play his own game and not have to worry or look out for his half back partner.If John had not been bulled up he just might have had a better chance but from the off he was expected to perform but thats no different to the other players.As for he dont like some fans being on his back well Im sorry but thats life for you and as the saying goes "you can please some of the people some of the time" and all that.If he gets game time we should give him Our full support but that wont change my view that he wont be good enough.When/if he gets game time I will give him my full support though.

All good points couldn't argue with any of the above, but at end of day I can't imagine John is on much of a contract.

I think he needs regular game time, so that's he ready to step in if Sykes gets injured; for mine, he should be on loan at a club where he can play every week.

this is a tricky one tbh, i agree with ngbc to a certain extent i just not sure he has the attributes to make it in super league, then again i dont see what he does in training, i just question wether he worth keeping on a over seas spot when we could use that spot to better use, but i not coach just a humble fan , wonder if he could be made into a centre he seemed to do well first game at widnes when moved there, i hope he does make it did show afew nice touches but is that worth keeping i just not sure sorry only my humble opinion tho

They tried to offload him in the off season and by all accounts is on a very good contract as were alot oc people signed by you know who !
