I happen to believe that our players are better than last years and I want more from them - I certainly would for the extra Wonga on offer - and no, I don't accept that I'm wrong for wanting more - I've been through enough crap thank you very much!

Quote: TRB "#2012yearofthewildcats TBH I think Bren's plea for realism and time is right, however I share with you your frustration too.
Clearly we all would like to be in a stronger position, but the league table is only half written at present.
We have a team capable of finishing the season better than last years, who had pretty much run their blood to water by now.
The pressure is on both Agar and Elston IMO though, because as much as this is the first year of the great rebuilding process, to finish with less points than last years squad managed would be considered abject failure on their behalf.
That would have a knock on effect on next years income and only delay if not derail the growth of the club.
So as has already been said, let's give them some time, but let's not be afraid to give them a kick up the jacksy too if and when it's needed.

New Rangers FC buyer pulled out today due to negative fans reaction, wonder what Glover thinks when he reads this forum?

Does anybody know, and I mean actually know not guessing/hearsay, how much we are spending on wages this year? How that compares to what other clubs are spending? How much more has been spent this year than last?

I think Kear raised our expectations by performing miracles on a shoestring budget. I think it was thought that just to bring in a 'bigger' 'newer' name with a bit more money to spent couldn't fail to be better but so far it has. I am guessing that we are still pretty low down in the wages league and the team while significantly better in places than last years team is hardly aweinspiring and wont be for some time until we catch up to other teams and are able to offer bigger and better deals. We are still one of the under dogs and for that you need somebody who can get the very best out of, in the main, fairly average players. I reckon Harbin, Kear, McNally would all get better results with this team than Agar that's not to say they are better coaches just that they are the sort of coach that we still need and will continue to need until we are able to spend a bit more on players.

That's a very good point, but the question remains whether the "motivator" type coaches you mentioned would be able to improve the structures at the club and the technical abilities of the players at every level to make us competitive in the long term. I'm not trying to claim that Agar can - I don't know enough about his methods to judge him one way or the other on that - but I think the guys you mentioned, whilst they would no doubt improve the 1st team in the short term by way of points and results, would only be papering over the cracks, very much as Kear had to do in the past.

The fans may just have to tough this one out, if we really want to see improvement in the long term on sustainable budgets. We'll never be the big spenders of rugby league, Newmarket or no Newmarket, unless someone who dwarfs Andrew Glover's wealth steps in and throws his/her loose change at everything. It's disappointing, but we should be used to that emotion by now.

This bunch of players should be doing miles better than we had last season with the exeption of Morrison they are a class above what we had.Go through the squad numbers and tell me otherwise for heavens sake I can now see why the codheads couldnt understand Agars logic with the subs bench or who he selected for what position.I like others was willing to give him the benefit but we are now almost half way through the season and look like we are in reverse gear not going up the gearbox. My benefit of doubt with Agar has run out he needs to start and get this lot motivated and stop playing players out of position more so in the forwards.

The problem being that it's all well and good talking about it being a 3 year project or a long term project but as we see on this board week in week out and as we will soon start to see in attendances a good number of people are much more interested in the here and now rather than 2, 3 even 5 years time. This especially true when, as you say, people are unsure if the man who has been given the job of turning these things around is actually up to the job. I imagine that the grand plan is that in 3 years time Agar will be leading a team at Newmarket which includes at least a handful of good youngsters that have come through the ranks but that seems a long way off at the moment. I appreciate that it is a difficult balancing act and only time will tell if we are going in the right direction with the right man at the helm.

I think the reason attendances have soared this season is because a lot of returning fans see hope with a new owner who so far has delivered what he promised. I firmly believe that the majority of these returning fans will continue to attend but only if there is some spirit, desire to win, grit, heart-call it what you will-shown by the players.
I for one cannot forgive heads going down and cavalier attitude when 'performing' on the pitch. I feel sometimes the 'old head' is missing from the pack to give the players some hard words of encouragement! A 'Brian Lockwood or Mick Morgan' would do. I'll watch 'em all season win or lose if they try but I admit they are stretching my patience this season. Reminds me very much of the Bobby Goulding, Steve Mcnamara era!

Probably thinks why did I listen to Elston?
Very little, if any, negative reaction to Glover on here.

glover seems like a decent guy. although his view that we can be self sustaining in the short term (or any term) gives me cause for concern. i think we're a long way off from that, with or without a new ground.

Although not an Agar fan at all, I could pretty much say I was comfortable with how the team were gelling right up until the Catalans match. Since then the performances rather than results has been a cause for concern.

I was never one of the supporters who were boasting of a top 8 finish at the start of the season. I felt with a new team and a coach with huge question marks over his career the best we could hope for would be a top 10 finish. So as I say the league placing is of little concern to me, it's roughly where I expected the club to be. However the pathetic displays in both attack and defence over the last month are indeed worrying. We should have seen a steady improvement from the momentum that was building right up until the end of March, sadly the reverse appears to be true.

Agar certainly talks a good game. But i'm not sure he is the man to revert that trend. One thing that does get to me is he has a loser's aura about him, especially when his team face one of the big sides, typified by his pre-match interviews. It almost as if he accepts that Trinity are not going to win and its a case of damage limitation.

Report i read on Skysports news yesterday gave the reasons as being misinformed by the administrators as to the true financial situation, one quote went along the lines of the impression given of the financial situation was wildly optimistic (or something along those lines).
In answer to your question Merlin, i would say if AG reads this forum he will be able to recognise the constructive posters from the out and out moaners.
To go back twelve months or so, and my reason for believing he (or someone) does read the forum, many of the posters gave some good advice to AG on what rights needed to be wronged in order to start improving the club, on a matchday, cats bar etc etc.
The same posters who, were positively supporting the club then, have not become the anti christ now because they have concerns, they still want the best for the club.
Ok we may as a group have got sightly carried away with ourselves in the optimism stakes, but that doesn't exclude people from blame if they have cocked up and it does not turn good posters into bad posters.
I would say (and i am largely optimistic and in general support of AG, something not everyone is or was) that if we were worth reading then, we are still worth reading now but if our input is not worthy then that is fine.
AGs predecessor had no time for the thoughts of the fans (or the majority of them) and look where he ended up.
AG has put a lot of faith in his team, and so far that has been proven right, however the appointment of Agar and the length of his contract (so far) looks a poor one, and if that continues it will be an achilles heel, not for AG, but for JE.
To stick his head in the sand or to sulk over this issue would IMO be a bad decision, equally so would sacking him on the say so of some of us lot on here!!!!!!
What is needed is a positive response from the club, one that highlights some of the fans concerns but also establishes the clubs vision and where we are to date from day 1, and along our journey.
A decline in income as a result of little or no action (coupled with a perceived slide on the filed) would i imagine harm the club (financially) slow down our development and growth and ultimately hurt us fans (emotionally) the most, so this needs to be avoided.
Even though the decision wasn't taken by AG to appoint RA, it will be on his watch so to speak. so if he does read, i hope he takes "some" notice, otherwise the writing may be on the wall and he may well lose support and end up like, you know who?

Also with people bailing out left right and centre on here recently, can he sign up, to get the numbers up!!!! icon_wink.gif
