Quote: vastman "Interesting comments from Hull fans, the only ones who really know.

Obviously ignore the ones like Standee who always crawl out from under there rock at these moments.

The general concensus seems to be that Agar is generally a decent Coach but not a top coach.'"

I would say that he's a good coach but not yet a head coach. He's consistently had the support of the players and gets good feedback [ias a coach[/i from pretty much everyone who knows him within RL. For some reason he just can't get the whole package working on the pitch consistently enough. His tactics are often odd and his bench/rotation strategy occasionally bizarre, but he's nowhere near as bad as some would make out.

As I've said elsewhere, after 7 years at Hull this move might be just what he needs to kick on. He certainly won't be a disaster for you and you'll get bags of determination and effort from him and his players. I wish him well.

typical vatman, spouting garbage.

as cod'ead has said, he's a great technical coach with attention to detail, but he just can't cut it as a head coach for some reason.

He's not the greatest of coaches, I admit, but he does have so pros that you can be pleased about.

[list
[*This season has seen FC playing some expansive, attacking rugby.[/*
[*This season FC have scored 50+ on 5 occaisions.[/*
[*In the two seasons where we haven't been as decimated by injuries, we've finished in the playoffs.[/*
[*He has a good knowledge of players at all levels of the domestic game (I've noticed that when questioned at the fans forums)[/*
[*Was responsible for players like Tom Briscoe joining Hull FC (Peter Sharp gave Briscoe his debut, but Agar scouted him). If you're lucky, he may be able to find another exciting player like this.[/*[/list

However, there are a few cons that he has.

[list
[*Failure to recruit players for our weaker areas (ie, halfbacks).[/*
[*We haven't won a Cup game against SL opposition in 09, 10, 11. [/*
[*Very odd interchanges. [/*
[*Seems as though his 'favourites' are guaranteed a spot, regardless of form.[/*[/list

I wouldn't be expecting miracles, but he won't be too bad for you. Hopefully Wakefield can improve, with a new coach and a better financial situation, but your squad is fairly weak so I wouldn't be expecting great strides immediately. It's unfortunate that his appointment has come late, so he might be unable to make some of the signings that he would have wished to.

I’m pretty ambivalent about it TBH.

Not so long ago the club went bust, and then plodded along to the inevitable removal from the comp.

I didn’t want Noble, just feel he’s been there, done it. Certainly not Goulding & an Aussie option is usually short term.

Players & Coaches come & go, at least I’ll be watching my team play S.L next year – result.

There seems to be quite a few elated Hull fans right now, but I think the changes at Board level has been a bigger factor than the Rugby side. Whoever they pick to replace Agar has got one hell of a job on.

If the signing of a coach who you haven't even given a chance makes you walk away then I say 'see ya later'. Not much of a supporter in my opinion and to be honest I'll be glad I don't have to share the terraces with you!!

you're wrong there, we were excited by the change of owner because we were confident it would lead to a change in coach, which it has.

Agar has been a spectacular failiure at Hull, coming out and saying "the race for 8th is exciting" was criminal, and phrases like "we need to raise us bar" simply made him look a bit foolish.

He's a good caoch (as has been said) and if he has the right support around him he will improve your league position in the comnig years, but remember, we paid a fee for Westerman and Obst, who have both made big contributions to us finishing anywhere near the playoffs, he has signed players on big money (O'Meley,Berrigan,Fitzgibbon,Long) and I don't think he'll have that kind of cash available at Wakefield.

His short term recruitment will give you an indication of what you can expect next season, hopefully you'll do well and start climbing the league, but the new stadium is key to you really ever being successful in SL.

Quote: Tongan Mafia "Not an arrogant post at all its a fact your squad isnt nowhere near as good as ours. If he cannot make a success out of ours then what hope as he with yours? Unless 8th place in the playoffs is your goal every year?
I was referring to your logic that because he's been poor for you he would automatically do the same here. He may do better here under less pressure and be able to improve us. Some of the more intelligent Hull posters have acknowledged he does have some strengths and the change may do him and us some good. However, I appreciate it's easier and more simplistic to blame Agar for years of underacheivement at Hull and assume the same will happen here, but in reality it's more complicated than that.

Clever move by Agar, instead of 12,000 calling for his head he will only have 6,000 next season icon_wink.gif
