LUMBS ....FULL OF ICE !!! 
Best ice - cream in the world mate . Used to join the queue n a blazing hot day for a 99 or one of them blocks of ice-cream sandwiched between 2 wafers wrapped in tracing paper many a time 
Oh aye !
Do they still do it anywhere ?Wasn't there a place near Spring Green nurseries that sold it ?? |

Just for the record i know from an very good source, Tesco were never going into the old sainsburys store on ings road as sainsburys hold the lease on the building. Watch the press for news on the Sainsburys ings road site you may be surprised

I'd heard that Matalan (& i forget who) were going into the Sainsbury's building & that Tesco were then building a big store where Matalan ,old MFI etc . are.
Then a mate , who's wife works for Sainsbury's , told me this morning that Sainsbury's had realized what a balls up they'd made by going to Trinity Walk & were going to go back into Ings Road again ! |

I remember cutting a coupon out of the Wakey express and taking it Tandy, on the Springs, the week it opened for a massive free torch.
Never replaced the batteries. Never went in Tandy again. |

I was at Snapethorpe school when Leo's opened. We had the afternoon off school and I am sure I did not dream they had a baby lion on the grand opening day.

We used to sneak off at lunch time from Thornes House and have a pint in the tap room of the Clothiers or the one in the park Holmfield House I think they called it. Some of the teachers used to go in. It was a if you dont tell we wont tell kind of deal. We would put on non school ties to make us look older and send the kid with the tache to the bar for the drinks.

I left 84. Have not lived in Wakefield for years though. Thornes House was a riot. I know it had a a bad reputation however, I loved it. Most of the kids were delinquents however, I would not have changed a minute. If your from that era you will remember Pips in town on a Monday and I think Thursdays. Young dumb and full of you know what. We were kings of the world. |
