| Quote: jonh "Wigan have one of the best youth set ups in the game, and have the kids in a great environment, it's not something in the past we have exploited to it full potential. Take players out of that environment into poorer ones and rarely do they kick on.
Gleeson is a fine example who for me has gone backwards at Trinity. Both Howarth and Vievers have some major aspects of their game that haseant they have not got a look in yet at first team, mainly pace, and while they may have a short term impact while things remain at they are I cannot see them bringing long term quality to the club while things remain as they are.
Hope this does not upset you TRB.'"
No upset - just thought it was ironic that we don't see you for ages and then, like the shopkeeeper in Mr Ben, Wigan win something - and here you are!
Please explain this comment. Not sure where it's aimed at tbh.

I have not been on in ages mainly due to the fact there has been so little to comment on from a rugby point of view. I have been reading just not commenting as the forum has been all about the stadium of Trinity fans moaning about this player that coach etc etc.
Regards the highlighted comment I do not feel Trinity have a top development system. They may have the things in place that aim to enhance the system but I do not feel the knowledge is at the club mainly due to dated methodology at most development stages.

I maintain that you're a patronising so-and-so but regretfully, I'd have to agree with that comment.

That would appear to be a comment on the individuals rather than the positions they hold - although I don't suppose it would be right to ask you to say exactly who that is aimed at.
The first part of your post is correct and we are doing all we can to move on - at least with 1 part of the equation!

All clubs have people with the same job titles of those at Trinity, as I understand it, its part of the criteria for the franchise.
Trinity had an Academy winning team where are those kids now. I cannot think of one that has made the step up. I agree it is unrealistic for them to suddenly become SL players, but I have to wonder where they are when very very average players of the same age are knocking about on loan at National League clubs getting first grade experience.
When a coach comes in with the aim of developing the young players who is best mates with the head coach and also from exactly the same background and era, I have to question that.
The game will always move forward and clubs have to be ready for that. When it comes to player development I am not sure Trinity are.
I am not a big fan of certain ex coaches who were charged with developing players but I have to say when they have moved on from Belle Vue they seem to have done a good job and progress development while Trinity seem to stagnate in this department.
Several players who were on the books of Trinity in recent years as kids, outside backs, secondrows, and hookers are now playing SL for clubs higher up the table than Trinity, and they are younger than the Championship winning team.
I take nothing away from those lads by the way I enjoyed every second of that season for them, but I have to say it seems they have been let down at this stage.

this year Morton has had to under the knife and Southernwood thought his future has else where, the others are waiting

Several younger less developed lads are now playing first team at clubs higher up the table.
I have to say whilst they are not ready for SL yet in some cases some and are stagnating rather than waiting. I also worry about having the first team coach and main development coach coming from the same era and background......where do the new ideas come from in that situation?!

players don't seem to want to stay and graft but to be fare it is a short time in the game
