Bring on the Northern Rail Cup.
SL is not the be all and end all some make it out to be.'"
yep me too!
ask any TRUE fan of any team in any sport and they will tell you the same.
I watched wakey in the old first division and enjoyed the day they got promoted.
had we lost to cas on the decider night i would have still supported trinity
castleford supporters stood by their team when they were relegated.
this is what TRUE SUPPORTERS do.
any merged team would be nothing to do with wakefield trinity in my eyes, in the same way sheffield and gateshead ceased to exist.
time to cancel the sky and wave SL good riddance.
i would get my rugby fix in batley or dewsbury

Why not have an agreement in place with Barnsley FC to play there for the next 3 franchise years if need be. There is no way we could be turned down for franchise with such an application. I have my doubt weather the ground at Glasshoughton would ever be built without any financial input from us or Wakey council so why feed the enemy? The distance from Wakey to Glasshoughton is the same as Wakey to Barnsley. Where are not going to win any new fans what so ever playing in Cas. Playing in Barnsley in the short term opens us up to all new potential new fans. It keeps the club alive until the time comes that we can move to our New Ground.
Having said that I'm still pretty confident that planning permission will be granted for Stanley. All concerns of the objectors have been addressed by the developers. The guys that grant permission to these developers aren't stupid, they aren't fooled by these emotional arguments. They are level headed professionals that judge these things on cold hard facts. The fact that such an influential man like Sir Rodney Walker is involved makes me more confident.
If anyone has seen todays Wakefield Express you would probably know that the chances of the council putting any money into a stadium development in the near future are probably next to zero. We are about to face the biggest slash on public spending in well over a generation. With a budget cut off around 25% (£30m shortfall) it's hard to see it been politically possible for such funding to be available for a lot of years to come.
No more talk of bailing out a struggling projects like Glasshoughton. Lets wait on the planning permission but have a plan B, that is in Wakefield Trinitys interest not our rivals.'"
That sounds like a decent plan B to me.

The benefits of this may extend to Trinity picking up new support from that area, especially if they can get Parky as and ambassador. They will not pick up any new support from playing in Castleford.

From Barnsley (Cudworth) when its suits him unlike Dickie Bird who is proud to say hes from Barnsley

I think this would be the best idea if the planning takes longer than expected.Like you mention the people that make the planning decisions aren't stupid along with the fact of big government cutbacks on council spending and the fact it won't cost Wakefield Council a penny, makes the Newmarket Development a no-brainer. WMDC should be looking at this development as a opportunity to bring business and sports facilities they other wise wouldn't be able to afford to build any time in the foreseeable future and thus maintaining the improvements the Council have been doing in the City.

The Parky comment was tongue in cheek, but the Oakwell option ought to be considered as a plan B.

then I must not be a true supporter then, which has come as a bit of a shock to me, I can tell you!!!
A merged team would represent Wakefield, not trinity I know, and a lot of people would not like it and would not go, but I would.
And ask all the lower league clubs, with previous higher league experience and healthier gates where their true supporters have dissapeared!!
A reality check perhaps??

And of this is our plan b, it should not be kept secret from the supporters, because a lot of us don't think we are capable of being that well planned!!!

My old boss owned a villa in marbella and this particular night out there was having a meal in a restaurant and Parky was on the next table dining in company and telling them all about our he used to watch town every week, but didnt have a clue who my boss Duncan Sharp was, who played about 400 games for us, full of kryptonite springs to mind

| Quote: jack in the box "If Wakefield agreed to a ground share at Glasshoughton, Newmarket stadium would not get any council funding. WMDC would put all their funds into GH, they would then provide a stadium within WMDC, they would then have completed what they promised and that would be it. Somehow I can't see us falling for that one.'"
Lets get some facts straight, shall we?
1) Newmarket will be built using private funds - no input from Trin or WMDC required, which is just as well seeing as Trin have no money and WMDC look set to be shafted by the new Govt. It will not be Trinitys ground, but a Wakefield Metropolitan (and I include Castleford in that) Stadium
2) Glasshoughton is a lovely project, but lacks those private funds and so is looking for help from WMDC or Trin to top up - IMO two chances, slim and none! The only dosh around is with Yorkcourt, and they are not a charity desparately trying to build a stadium somewhere! They want their [iquid pro quo[/i in the form of the rest of the development.
3) Glasshoughton is not Castleford, it's just near Castleford, so wherever Tigers move to they're moving out of Cas which is , when all said and done, just a small town in Wakefield So why not move to another stadium that's also not in Cas?
4) BOTH teams future depends on Newmarket!!! At the very least it will allow Cas time to re-group and strengthen their finances, and who knows may allow them to spend a bit more on players and be competitive (before the squeals start, I acknowledge that we could do with a bit of that as well!)
Like it or not, we're in the same boat - and should both be praying for this development to go ahead!

obviously crowds in the lower leagues are lower.once all the fairweather fans stop going.
like i said the true supporters would be there.
what you are saying is if we got relegated (however it came about) you would rather watch a SL team than wakefield trinity.
i am sure if you ask any supporter of these clubs you refer to they will tell you that the real supporters are still there.
any merged team would not represent wakefield even if they built a new stadium (assumably out of fairy dust and magic beans) at normanton lets say.
the new club would just become normanton !

| look if we lose the franchise then we lose the franchise, Wakefield Trinity is still the team i love i will still have a season ticket be it in national league 1 or 2 even the bloody Wakefield league!
if there was a merger then i would be upset yes but i would still support that team and probably grow to love the two but i would still hold the memories of my beloved trinity close to my heart!

I wish you well in your project and really hope both clubs get their respective stadiums but that is the biggest load of bile I've read in a long time on here, and trust me, there are some contenders.
Firstly, regards number 2 - no one knows the state of the stadium but I can guarantee things are progressing and it will be built in some form or another, whether it is built in phases or built in full.
Number 3, Glasshoughton is an area of Castleford, just like Airedale, just like Whitwood and just like Baghill, Monkhill, Carleton in Pontefract. Last time I saw it was written, Glasshoughton, Castleford on addresses.
As for number 4, lol. That's all I have to say. That seems to me to be a Wakey fan pleaing for help in his side's struggle. It shouldn't be like this but unfortunately it is.
