Maybe Big Dave just needs his own handler - someone who has the specific task of keeping him at the appropriate level of radged in any given situation?!

A bit like the job that Black Widow does with The Hulk - without the skin tight leather cat-suit.

I think Ashurst would be a good choice.

You could go completely left field though and go with Batchelor. He certainly has the potential.

I have never read as much drivel in my life, so why should ashurst be the next captain, because he got our man of steel, absolute nonesense. What experience of been a leader have I missed?

NONE but the way he goes about things reminds me of when we had Gareth Ellis who turned out quiet well.

Sorry mr bliss but I don't see any comparison at all, yes he's a very good second rower but a future captain don't see it. My choice for what's it worth would be grix or maybe Finn for a seasons

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me. WTRLC 2012 to 2014 "The wasted years" Magic Weekend "Whipping Boys" 2013, 2014 & 2015 2017 - The year the dream disappeared under Grix's right foot. 2018 - The FinniChezz Bromance 2019 - The return of the Prodigal Son. 2020 - Keeping the faith.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_2597.jpg

I thought Horo seemed to be having a rant and barking out some instructions during the last few games where I've paid attention. Maybe a future possibility?

I don't like the idea of giving it to a new guy.
Unless it's Cameron Smith who brings massive experience a new guy to the club should support the captain not be the captain.

Seems a no brainer to me. It appears the players want Kirmond and if that's the case so be it.

How often is Kirmond going to play though? I rate him as a player don't get me wrong, but he's taken some hammer these last few seasons so how long is his body going to hold up?
Plus you have to consider that Batchelor will be playing more and Ashurst is an 80 minute man.

Wow - a very strong reaction to other people's suggestions...

FWIW, his selection as man of steel had no bearing on my thought process; I suggested him because he's a cool, calm and error free presence on the field; he seems to play at a high level of intensity and concentration, without getting sucked in to the emotion of the game - all of which seem like good qualities to influence other players.

That said, we only know half the story - I'm sure Chester will pick a captain who has the appropriate attributes and respect of his colleagues.

Gotta be Finn for me if it's not Kirmond. Think Miller could be groomed for the role in a couple of years though.

I'd want danny to continue as captain as long as he plays for wakey
He's being a great servant to our club

I feel ashurst is a definate future captain for us

Also worth adding
I saddens me that danny feels that way about the captaincy
He still clearly has loads to offer his club, next year could be even bigger than last danny lad!

I actually think that this shows just what a good captain and leader he is to the club. I suspect he knows that he is less likely to play as much next year and therefore feels it should go to someone who will be in, week in, week out for 80 mins.
I would personally leave him as club captain and have a couple of the other guys that have been suggested as deputies for when he is not on the field.
Finny and Grix have the experience but I also agree that Ashurst looks and plays like the role-model type captain. He doesn't look like the type to feel pressured by it.
For me, Kirmo remains captain with a leadership team below him of Finn, Grix and Ashurst.

I agree Danny has put his body on the line and spilt more blood on his shirt season after season. When we were at rock bottom a number of clubs wanted Danny but his decision was to stay. It would be worthy to see him lead the team on to what look like better times ahead.

As we only watch the game from afar and can't really say who is organising things, reassuring players, firing them up and settling them down as needed we really have no idea!!! We might see a player having a lot to say but we don't know if their contribution is valuable or if any of the the others is listening.

What Wakefield need is a captain that can put ideas over to the referee. He will not have the luxuries that the likes of Wilkin or McGuire or O'Loughlin get, but a good talker will help get some of those 50:50 decisions that elude us.
