my fear ref Newmarket its too far out of Wakefield fans will be put off if car parking is difficult and transport links are not put in place

| It was said that there was ample car parking and there will be buses from Wakefield city centre on match days.

If I remember correctly:
There will be car parking, but it won't be cheap.
I think each car has to have 3 people in it, so there'll be plenty picking up en route.
You can reserve a place with your season ticket.
Bus would be best although I'll be walking
A new prematch ritual will have to be established. Will people use the bars in the ground, or in Stanley, or in town before catching the bus?

from what I can remember there's only one pub at close walking distance
I'll find it easy via the motorway but will still be using the car unless transport is made easier then we could use it, as it is we would have to catch two buses now from wreny

| From the plans our new ground looks like its just behind the moorhouse estate so easy walking distance from the stanley pubs plus wouldn't be surprised if one opens up on the development

| Travellers, waggon, wheatsheef and Rising Sun through Stanley and down bottomboat, or thatched house on Aberford road.
I think there Is going to be a pub/hotel type boozer on the development and the bars in the stadium.
Plenty of choice, plus all our new fans from cas and Leeds are well served on their way through Rothwell and Methley etc!!!

| My concern with Newmarket is indeed the car parking and what I fear to be exorbitant cost. It will cost me enough coming from East Yorkshire for each home game (that I can make). With the price of petrol and entry an extra fiver/tenner to park is a real disincentive. Also with occasional matches on a Monday night or Friday night (for Sky) then time can be tight to get across from work.
Call me a cheapskate but I hate paying for parking, no matter where it is. We pay enough in car tax, VAT on buying a car then on petrol that exorbitant fees just discourage more.
I appreciate it is not great for people living nearby with cars parked during match day, but legally parked cars in reasonable areas can be worked out.
I also wonder how many away fans would be discouraged by parking fees.

| I'm ok with carparking charges - there are too many cars on the road as it is, so there should be a disincentive to use them; for those people who don't feel able to use an alternative, there should be a cost attached.
Back to Salford - I don't think this is anything like a new rumour - it's been doing the rounds for ages and a lot of it was debunked by the club themselves and one of their well informed posters, both on the VT and their own board.
Personally, I hope it works out for them - I understand Sale Sharks are moving in soon, so that might help out with running costs and such. Either way, I'm guessing that our own situation will be somewhat different, given that NM will be run by a not-for-profit Trust.

The closest pub is the Mexborough Arms which is about a mile down Newmarket lane. I call for a pint when I'm out mountain biking, it's dated as hell inside, can't have had a penny spent on it since the 80's and hardly anyone ever goes in but once this gets the go ahead it could turn into a decent pub, which I could see being bought by one of the breweries.

| A couple of hostelries could see their fortunes turn around a bit if they work hard at cashing in on match-day custom - and power to their elbows.

It isn't even shown on that for some reason, that's how few people go to it, it's down Newmarket lane and it's at the fork in the road at Park Lane and Watergate about 1 mile straight from where it's going to be built.

Yes it's defo a bit closer if you walk through the public footpaths at the end of Bottomboat and then up to Newmarket lane.
