| Oulton Raiders Under 7's won again, beating Kippax away. The Kippax team played well considering they are a team of all year 1's, our side is mainly year 2 with a handful of the younger year 1's - but it's our first season. So far in the league we have had 2 wins and 1 draw.
One of the main problems we are having at the moment is getting enough game time into the players, we have a full squad and so far have had around 15-16 available to play each week, and we have played against teams with 8 players, 4 players and 8 players. I notice players improving through the game the more minutes they play so having to rotate the squad and basically having a different team playing the 2nd half compared to the first half is making it much harder for us - whereas teams with lesser numbers have the advantage of getting a full game into all of their players every week, and they do seem to learn much, much more from the games compared to training.
Setting 2 teams up is a bit of a no-no given the extra coaches, TLM's managers etc required.
Does anybody else involved with kids of this age notice a drop off during the summer months for various reasons?

I don't quite think you are getting the point!
Yes winning matters everybody tries to win but development is far more important.at the end of the day trophy s are lovely and they give you great memory's but that's all.
Onething you would do well to learn is not all the best players play for the best team.
Good luck to all taking part this weekend in the Yorkshire challenge cup!!

That's a perennial problem I think and you're certainly not the only club to experience it; we've got 23 players registered in our U14's team which gives the coach a selection nightmare, especially when those players are at various different points of the spectrum in terms of ability.
I'm not sure what the answer is - two teams seems obvious, but that has many of its own potential problems, aside from the obvious ones you've pointed out.
Who would run a junior rugby club??

| To be fair rob you know that I dont for 1 moment think that way.
I know the players you have , east leeds have etc .
I know that east hull are far far from a 1 man team . Stanley division 2 but quality players.
Its just that once again 1 particular poster takes a comment and twists it.
I think you should do well in the cup but reading into those I wouldn't be sure. ;)

Can not find a fault with that at all.
Its pleasing to see aswell coaching staff taking this view.
Some sports like scoccer have this terrible way of trying to try out kids and refusing to coach to improve just concentrating on those who shine.
I really do hope that my views have not been misinterpreted because I've always been fully behind enjoyment before tin pots.
