I am sorry but did you think before you posted this because I am fairly certain based on the number of games played in SL his qualities are known. I agree we are all learning even me and I am over 50.
In respect of Kaye I do not know a lot about him but if he has potential then why wasn't he signed by another SL club. I guess his potential is still unclear but let's see how his future career path develops once his contract expires at Leigh. We will then have a better idea if we made a mistake in not paying him what his agent believed he was worth.

Not really, he's played over 100 games for Cas whereas Kay played only two for us. The only thing he's learning is that he can no longer drink over the festive period.

I hope he sees Wakefield as a way of resurrection his career and fixing his off field issues. Both the Santa incident and his confidence afterhis injury.
Cockayne is a good example to follow to Wakefield. He made the best of his time here after a bad time elsewhere.

I said he'd handled everything SL had thrown at him and had done so with aplomb, which he did.
You may not have mentioned him before he scored against Cas but don't try speaking for everyone, I for one knew quite a bit about him both as a junior and as a Doncaster player.
Owen doesn't have a greater RL pedigree that's just you building a case, he does have more experience though I'll admit that. What Kaye has that Owen doesn't is unknown potential, we don't know yet how good he could be.Owen on the other hand is a known quantity and fits the description I gave in my earlier post.
Well done on trying to claim some kind of knowledge based higher ground with your "anyone who knows RL would tell you that" comment but I'll back my judgement thank you and although I don't know you I'd trust my judgement over yours based on your posts.'"
Well we'll have to beg to differ. I wasn't referring to myself by the way, it's some of the people I know who "know" RL and it's when I speak to them I realise how little most posters on this forum know, including me - so son't take it to heart.
Owen will a good signing if he's managed well.

it was you who said Kaye as unknown potential wich Owen asnt so because he as played over 100 games that means he as no unknown potential he is just going to play the same all is career

I tend to agree - I would have liked to have seen LK given an opportunity at WTW, but it sounds like his agent conspired to price him out of the market; given that he hasn't been picked up by any other SL club, it's a bit of a stretch to suggest he's the next great hope.
I'm not over-excited by the signing of Owen, but he's a competent player who, odd brainfart aside, appears to know his way to the try-line; since we're not quite at the stage of signing Ryan Hall or Joel Monaghan to take up a wing spot, he looks like a decent replacement for either Fox or Riley, and has some utility value in being able to play pretty much anywhere in the back line. If he puts it in and contributes to us staying up, he'll get my support.

| Does anyone know if Leigh paid LK the contract that he asked us to pay?

| Owen and Kay are separate entities really - one is established at SL level the other very much a prospect.
The recent history of Wakefield's "prospects" however has been relatively bleak, and considering this is a massive season for WTW, you'd take a proven player on an "end of the season" deal every day of the week.
And I stand making myself a little unpopular but, it's no good harping on about Liam Kay. He's gone. End of.

| Personally I think had we have kept Liam Kay, there would now be 4 or 5 threads on this board about wanting him dropped or sent out on loan. The MoM, hat-trick, match winning try performance against Cas last season would have elevated him to such godlike heights that he wouldn't have stood a chance this season unless he was scoring 4 a game.
As much I'm not a big fan of Owen, you can't deny he has SL experience and knows his way to the try line. If he features on Sunday and scores the winner he'll go down in folklore.

It might not be the end of forever, but you're absolutely right - for now, that ship has sailed.

Never bothered you before Dave but that's bang on for me. We need to move on from Kaye now.
Looking at the Cas boards, apart from the odd dig at Wakfield most people didn't want to lose Owen nad only have good things to say. That bodes well for us.
I've seen him have poor games but he certainly is no mug and seems to have a good game against us every time he plays.
We have Mathers there at the moment who is doing a decent job but he isn't a winger. Seems like a good move.

If it's just SL experience we're looking for then stick with Fox as he's very similar to Owen.

The topic isn't so much about Liam Kaye as it is about how we spend our money and the decision making behind it!

| To be fair I think I didn't like Owen because he played for Cas... An he was once touted as the next big thing in international football... And he played for Cas!
Can't say I liked Riley in a Wire shirt but would love to see him come on board permanently now... I hope Owen fulfills the potential he showed earlier n his career and I hope he does that in a Trinity shirt!
