| I consider this a line in the sand.
Redevelopment of ground started.
Virtually a blank piece of paper re the squad.
And what seems an educated, bright and knowledgeable young coach.
Let's hope it all comes together.
Good luck to us all.

| Feels like the cheaper of the cheap options! I dont understand replacing an in-experienced head coach with another, however it sounds like he is well respected in the club so good luck to him.

One may be happier to work within the constraints placed upon them.

| Rohan Smith seems to be doing ok. A short stint at Bradford and no NRL or SL experience and a similar age. Of course he has the all important accent but appear from that not much in it.
Plenty of coaches have taken over clubs with far less of a grounding than Applegarth and done just fine.
Apparently he’s one dimensional, well I quite like that because that dimension seems to be producing teams that win more often than they lose.
They also say that if your good enough your old enough, same applies to coaching.
I think he will find it hard to start with and will need to win over older players but that’s his challenge. Truth is that I’ve rarely seen so called experienced coaches manage that very often.
He’s Trinity to the core, it’s a good start. He knows the British game and he knows the quality of the players at other clubs. If we are on a budget that’s the knowledge you need.

| Shaun Wane and Matt Peet come to mind straight away, and Rohan Smith, as others have mentioned. A better option than a lifelong assistant fancying a go, which was the likeliest route.
I'm happy with it. It might turn out wrong. It might not. But that's the same for anyone who comes in.

| I like the appointment. If you look at the overall direction the club is going with the younger lads coming through. And success of academies/reserves/PDRL/WTLRL . It’s developing clear pathways in our own system which for me will be a lot more successful and sustainable going forward. With mash going through that same system on the coaching side. Hopefully the players buy in and our core group of British youth players plus with a couple quality overseas signings we can play a brand of rugby we can be proud of next year

| So i get there is some negative comments about mash but while i dont and wont pretend know him closley i have had many a chat with him i have listend to him in training and in the dug out i have also spoken to lads who have previously trained and played under him and currently do so and all have nothing but good to say about him he whips the whip when needed but praisers when required.he gets the best out of players.its common knowledge my lad is an academy player and i would say he has had a very successful year and if you ask him why he will say its alot to do with mash so give him a chance we know he wont have a massive budget but he will go well...
Plus any body want to see hus style in action get to wigan on sunday hes a frand final to win

| I can understand the reaction but he now needs supporting and judging on his team next year and how they perform.
I know a few things to be facts.
Nobody on this planet would work harder at making a success of the role. He’s literally the hardest worker in the room.
He’s a very good salesman he may not have the big name however he is very articulate and has the ability to get people to buy into him.
Nobody knows the club better from top to bottom.
Is it a risk? Yes.
Should we give him a chance? Absolutely, his first job will be appointing his fellow coaching team which could be as critical, if not more so than his appointment.
I can think of many coaches who have a knack of surrounding themselves with the right support staff, and had very good careers despite being limited as coaches, not that I’m saying Mash is by the way.

Think that is the main concern Will quality players want to come and play for Wakefield for a untried S L coach If you had the chance to play for M Applegarth or T Smith who would you want to play for .

| It was obvious that this was agreed prior to any review or the quickest appointment. I know you are hoping that the club know best but to appoint our second assistant without even seeing who may want the job smacks of the usual modus operandi of cheap. I wonder how he will be able to sell the club to any quality players or will it be just those looking for a final pay packet coupled with those returning from long injury absence.
I hate to burst your bubble but we have offloaded most of this seasons squad and do you think he will boost season ticket sales. We know the club prefer those that agree with them so that may of helped his appointment.
I am not an accountant but the accounts submitted for the period ending Nov 2021 showed an increase of cash in hand of over £500,000 to just over £750,000 plus the stakeholders loans reduced by £80,000. I suppose there may be a reason for this but interesting none the less.

I'm thinking you don't actually know if they talked to anyone else?

If it was so obvious then why didn't you point it out to those of us who did not see the obvious, also can you name the players we have offloaded, you really need to get rid of the bitterness that's eating you up, get down to a game next season and cheer yourself up
