Add Taufua to lack of value for money. They cost more with accommodation, flight’s etc. and you know this. That’s why people are ANGRY when they see poor effort.
My spectacles are clear by the way. Too many rank signings from the salary cap.'"
And I agree about Taufua.

| Not saying he’s particularly great, but don’t understand why Taufua is getting hammered for effort. There was no shortage of effort against Leigh imo

Absolutely. And he makes great ground. And I'm quite happy for him to play.
But if we are being critical, he's probably not the winger we need.
If Murphy hadn't been injured he would have been 2nd/3rd in line.
You shouldn't use a quota spot for that.

Recent years we have seen more success with pace and speed in the backs. We seem to have gravitated back to the power style wingers/backs and while they make decent yardage they don’t offer much attacking strike from range or even support play on breaks.
We have been embarrassed with the likes of Johnstone and a bit further back BJB. Murphy also showed last year some good touches but he’s out for season which is a cruel blow.
Langi isn’t the fastest and Lyne has lost all his athleticism and pace and is more of a forward these days in centre.
We may not see a player like TJ at trinity for some time again. It’s such a shame he spent a fair amount of time on the sidelines.
I guess my point is when you’ve had a player like TJ on the wing and a breakout speedy young lad who had success last year it’s hard to not be disappointed with replacements for those.

In Johnstone and then (briefly) with Murphy, we were blessed with 2 of the best wingers to ever pull on a Trinity jersey and with us not having had the best squad over the past few years, these guys could win a game on their own, scoring some wonderful tries from nothing.
With Murphy injured and Hall gone, we have nobody apart from Kershaw, capable of going the length of the field. There is no substitute for pace and we simply dont have any in the squad.
If Dagger is injured, we should give young Butterworth a decent run at FB and give him chance to grow.
Yes, he made a couple of errors but, I recall Jowitt doing something similar on his debut at Saints and it didn't do him to much harm.
Using our own players seems massively preferable to taking ANYONE on a 2 week loan, something that must really annoy those in the reserves who get pushed down the queue. Surely this is why we have a squad ?

All teams have speed in there back seven except us ,Making overlaps for wingers to dive in the corner is a play for all teams except us ,because of lack of speed and very poor slow passing along the line. We have problems all over the park Including a 6 who can not tackels and can not make a break of put a player through a gap ( he is the 2nd choice) the first choice is way past is best .It makes me ANGRY that most of the fans who do not use rose tinted glasses could see this before the season started but not those in charge even though the fans were talking about it as players were leaving If you watched R L for a lot of years you do not need to be a so called coach to no when your signings are bad .Taken 5 or 6 week for these coaches to work out why some of the highest paid players were not playing for the last coach

Agreed. Although our style and quality of play hardly helps them I don’t think any of our current fit wingers are what you’d call natural finishers. They seem to lack that instinct that the better wingers have to sniff out a chance and its correct they are certainly not the quickest around. Even Kershaw that you mentioned as probably the quickest seems to have lost half a yard since his injury, although that could be due to what seems to me bulking himself up a little too much. Style wise he’s morphing into a modern day David Jones.
It speaks volumes that we are a third of the way through the season and none of our wingers have scored a try yet!

The stat about our wingers not having scored is absolutely shocking.

I like Kershaw though as he gets through some solid work, you always get 100% and he’s very workmanlike. His selling point is his yardage gain and carries. We need to find a way to give him some space though. He has enough pace to see him score from a reasonable distance out. I do agree though that we lack a winger who has ability to sniff out a try.
If we were to end up in the championship Kershaw would be one of the first players I’d like us to tie down. He’s solid at this level but in the championship he would certainly be amongst the top wingers in the comp. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

It's awful isn't it.
I wonder what the stats would be for wingers with a pass in oppositions 25. I reckon that would be equally shocking.

So who's at fault for that then? What's even worse is, whoever has played on the wing have had about 2 chances to score, or half-chances. Kershaw at Cas, and possibly Senior at Saints, I can't recall another chance being created. Although to be fair Taufua was put away down his wing at Salford and he passed inside to Hall, rightly of course.

Indeed, they cant score without the ball. This possibly applies to the rest of the side too.
It shows just how poor and utterly dull our offensive game has been. Its not a criticism of our wingers.
