If he was the outstanding candidate that applied I'd like to know who else made the shortlist. Not my first choice or even second or third but there's nothing we can do now I hope he proves us doubters wrong. On his backroom staff I think Ben cooper willflow him as our new conditioner

Interesting comments from Hull fans, the only ones who really know.

Obviously ignore the ones like Standee who always crawl out from under there rock at these moments.

The general concensus seems to be that Agar is generally a decent Coach but not a top coach.

Well maybe we need a reality check because we are NOT a top club and Wayne Bennett with the help of the richest Arab prince couldn't turn us into one by the start of next season.

I was as guilty as anyone else of wanting an Aussie - Gentle the most obvious. Yet he wasn't going to join us, not ever and had he joined us he would have failed.

You see Gentle and others have an agenda. Cone to SL and take a top side or at least a nearly there side to a CCup or better a SL title in two years then return to Oz and become a HC. No way could he do that with us.

Even if AG lives up to his promise looking at Trinity right now we do not look a good prospect for that level of coach. You wouldn't move halfway around the world to take your chances with the worst team in SL this year and one of it's weakest clubs. I don't care how good Gentle is he couldn't turn us around in the time he would have.

Looking at it in the cold light of day Agar or similar is about right for us, steady guy for a steady club. We all want success but until we move to NM that simply won't happen because we have not got the money. Let Agar have a go, he may not win us anything but if he keeps the club running at a professional level until NM that would do. If he does better than hoped then when NM happens he gets a go. If he doesn't he makes way for better and we will get better at NM. Either way we don't lose.

There are better coaches out there than Agar but whether there are better coaches for us right now I don't know. I suspect that's what AG thought. We need to be realistic and he's hardly what I'd call a disaster.

I'm starting to become reasonably happy with the choice of Agar but 3 years contract seems a bit much given the lifespan of most coaches these days.
Anyway, onwards and upwards!

Didn't he get sacked by Hull for some reason or am I thinking of the wrong person?

One of my biggest issues with Agar was that he would not take any risks, both in the type of rugby played and in blooding youngsters. The press release by Wakey states the clubs aims, which without trying to be superior, are probably lower than Hull's so some of the pressure for results he had at Hull may not be present at Wakey. I could never understood why the players respected him, from the stands we looked rubbish, but they did so there must be some talent there and he would have been gone a long time ago without the players support.

It will be interesting to see how he goes, I'm not going to pretend he did a good job now he has gone, he didn't and I am glad we made the change. He also said some stupid things in the press at times, but maybe there is a good coach in there trying to get out and the change will do him good.

I would say that he's a good coach but not yet a head coach. He's consistently had the support of the players and gets good feedback [ias a coach[/i from pretty much everyone who knows him within RL. For some reason he just can't get the whole package working on the pitch consistently enough. His tactics are often odd and his bench/rotation strategy occasionally bizarre, but he's nowhere near as bad as some would make out.

As I've said elsewhere, after 7 years at Hull this move might be just what he needs to kick on. He certainly won't be a disaster for you and you'll get bags of determination and effort from him and his players. I wish him well.

typical vatman, spouting garbage.

as cod'ead has said, he's a great technical coach with attention to detail, but he just can't cut it as a head coach for some reason.
