| Quote jonh="jonh"It sounds like Rocky is financially secure and not in a rush to be forced into a move that he doesn't want to make, ie out of the top flight.
We have seen players in the past make the drop down and come back to have good SL careers but it doesn't seem he wants to, or needs to follow that path just yet.
If he is out of the game for a full season I would think his main route back in would be to drop down, however I think at the moment he is probably comfortable by the sounds of it sitting back working hard and waiting for the injuries to start rolling in and pick up a gig that way. It's a risk but it may pay off.
If Union hasn't made an approach I would be surprised. I think his game would transfer across quite comfortably to the 15 man code.
I am sure he will have opportunities in the near future which are attractive to him. He may not be a fit for the current set up at Wakefield but he is without doubt a SL standard player.
I just hope wherever he gets a deal he is given time consistently at fullback and not shunted about so he can have a go at making the position his own.'"
His main route back in is if a team gets a catastrophic injury crisis in positions he can cover. Covid issue aside.

| Listening to a RL podcast and a players agent was talking about players out of contract and he stated that he believed a few super league clubs had enquired after Rocky but money was the issue ,things may have changed as the post cast is a few weeks old now . He did say that what Rocky thinks he is worth is not what the clubs are willing to pay out or words to that effect.

Money will be the issue.
Not saying that Hampshire is n any way greedy but the SKY deal has simply decimated wages and good a player though he is he isn’t good enough to get a premium.
For a lot of players it’s a brutal new reality for now.

| I tend to agree that Rocky's versatility, has for him, been his downfall - seems clubs are only prepared to pay so much for what they see as a utility player.
I like Hampshire and I wish we had re-signed him but the coach knows best so we have to respect that.
I think too that he may end up in the championship, but who knows.

| Surprised Leigh haven't been knocking on his door as Chester knows first hand his versatility, and they seemed to be throwing the cash about a bit

He might have been but that’s your drop down that Ryan doesn’t want.

That's the thing he isn't in the top flight as he doesn't have a gig anywhere

| I think with money being tight, Ryan more than likely would never have been first choice in any of his favoured positions and so was in the pool most likely to be cut. Dare I say also that Michael Carter had probably had enough of the family/Normanton entourage publicly decrying the club and him personally on too many occasions? It seemed like it was a definite decision by Carter on this occasion, having dithered last time around before Chester got involved.

So you don't know either then? Nothing definite about it.

Although I’m sure his resident cheerleader didn’t help I think you are giving MC to much importance on this. If WP had wanted to keep Ryan he would have, Carter sets the budget but Poching decides how it’s spent. The writing was on the wall when Gaskell was signed and Lino proved himself.
The only thing MC may have put his foot down on would have been the alleged Covid issue and I say alleged because I don’t know.
I think by now we know MC is a stickler for rules as most accountants are, he seems fairly inflexible in that regard to me. People may or may not think that’s a good thing but he’s been very consistent through the years.
I tend to think it was just a players career at the club running its course.
Getting back to people connected with players posting on here it’s interesting to note that they all seemed to have stopped. Make of that what you will but for the life of me I could never understand what they thought they were achieving publicly criticising the club’s management, bizarre and gross misconduct at some companies,

| I have always liked Rocky wherever he played on the pitch, and he always seemed fully committed to the cause. I especially remember when we played Broncos for the 2nd time away about 3 seasons ago. we were absolute pants and about 30+ points down with about 20 mins to go and Big Dave and Rocky took it upon themselves to give it a go, although we ended up losing I remember thinking if 1 or 2 other players had committed themselves like those two we would have beaten them. Anyway back to the post, I think Rocky will be with a superleague team possibly by round 8 or so and maybe in France because his SL experience will be invaluable to a team like Toulouse. Wherever he ends up I wish him well and hope that he comes back to Wakey at some point of his career.
