With regard to electricians & lamps - not bulbs ! My very good friends that are electricians, known as sparkies, were & are fixated on this subject.
In truth Thomas Eddison is credited as inventing the first electric light bulb, So called because when connected to electric the light shone in a bulbous shape - measured in Lumens, therefore elec/bulbs are called light bulbs, word bulbs is a shortened word/s - - " bulbs " & therefore nothing to do with plant bulbs !
We still jibe on this at times but bulbs is correct eg, hoovering up, is as we all know vacuuming with any vac !
Sorry to be boring but this issue has gone on for years in the trade.

My Dad is a retired sparky, and I have several years of working in electrical wholesale

My mate reckons it's bulb to the customer, lamp to the wholesaler.

Like anyone gives a s**t.

Have to say it's not one of the great issues of the day imho.

Most definately lamps, 30 years in the electrical wholesale business and actually the lamps that's go in these floodlights are in fact tubes

Lamp or bulb matters not, when you go to B&Q and ask where the 50 watt bulbs are you'll be directed to the electrical section and not the gardening section, similarly if you are seeking tulip bulbs you'll be directed to gardening not electrical. You may be unlucky and you have asked the retired electrician working as customer service and get a lecture of how electricians call them lamps listen and nod politely and them go and get your 50 watt bulb. Should you ask for a 50 watt lamp you'll still be directed to the electrical section but the aisle with the reading lamps, wall lamps etc unless it's the retired electrician again, he/she will recognise a fellow electrician and you will get served personally (the lamp thing is the electricians version of the masons handshake)

I have table lamps, bedside lamps a standard lamp and they all have lightbulbs (or light bulbs, depending which dictionary you use). When I switch the lamp on it produces light, the bulb that is. I'm confused and bored but never mind Super League starts on January 31st.
