Spoke to BJ a few weeks ago and he qualifies for residency mid way through next year so I guess he wouldn't come off quota before that no matter what.
I think the non-quota/Kolpak exemptions only applied to Kolpak/Europeans anyway so Aussies still count no matter what (but don't quote me as it is as clear as mud!!)

| IF the internet is correct then;
The rules of 2011 are;
- At least 8 home grown players.
- No more than 5 quota players.
- No more than 5 overseas trained players inc quota players.
- Rest of squad to be from players trained within same federation
However there are some exceptions;
- When a player has played for a rugby team for six years, he is eligible to gain British citizenship and does not count under the quota.
- If the player has a passport for any EU nation or a Kolpak nation.
- If the player is from a Kolpak nation such as Samoa or Tonga.

| A player being here 6 years - would this include Obst (2004) and Jeffries (2002)?
Player has a passport for any EU nation or Kolpack nation - would this include Millard (Fijian)?
From a Kolpack Nation - would this include Leaeno (Samoan) and JJP (PNG)?

| Kolpak players still count on the quota although I think Obst may be off quota by now. The RFL really needs to publish a list of overseas players for each club, their current status and then when dispensation can be applied for/granted.

I agree. I twould at least then stop everyone accusing all the other clubs of breaking the rules or having special privileges etc.
Not that I don't think some teams try very hard to break the spirit of the rules (including Wakey).
A clear explanation and a list of players statuses should be provided by the RFL.

| If a player comes off the quota after being at a club for 6 years then this would mean that Obst is no longer counted as a quota player. BJ has spent 6 years with us but went to Bradford for 2 years in the middle of that spell so does that mean he is off the quota?

| The whole thing is a joke. Rugby League must be the only sport in the world that make it up as they go along. Franchise, quota, club call, the whole setup makes a mockery of what is at its core a superb game.

I believe it is dependent upon them applying for (and gaining) citizenship.
Not sure on Sam's situation regarding this but BJ personally told me that he can get citizenship mid way through next year. (would have been sooner but there was some confusion I believe with the types of visa necessary when he first came over)

This might prove useful to grab an understanding of the Quota regulations. I got this from the Wigan site posted by Ian Lenagan in 2009. I've taken the bits out relating to Wigan, but the rest of the post is relevant.

| So if a player was already committed to super league before 2008 does this mean that Obst and Jeffries don't count on the quota? Or does this rule only apply to EU/Kolpack players such as Hendo?

The exemptions only apply to non-quota players.

That means that we definatly need to let one of our current quota players go and let 2 go if we want to keep Charlie.
Millard
Morrison
Jeffries
Obst
Parker
Smith
Leeano
My money on the 2 not to be with us next season are Charlie and Obst but i hope it isn't because i would rather we kept Obst and got rid of Jeffries.

| In the Wakefield Express it states that players will be leaving in the pre season! So i'd say it's a toss up between either Obst or Jeffries. I'd assume Charlie won't be offered a deal and that therefore means if we're to get a SH it's going to be english!
