Its a discussion. He's hardly sniping about Salford is he?
We know times are grim when a Salford fan is being pious!

| I'd take a look at how many foreign players have pulled on the Trinity shirt this year before looking over the fence at other clubs. All this from a man (JK) who vowed to reduce the over-reliance on foreign players when he took over.

Why is it so difficult to comprehend that nobody is pointing the fingers at any club. They are asking a reasonable question and they just used Salford as an example because of their signings for next season and the rule changes.

Surely this is where the ruling should be tightened up as they are all "foreign" and are not helping the development of young British players.
The Aussies wouldn't do it!!

Indeed. How dare we discuss other clubs on the Trinity forum.
In fact how dare we even accomodate fans from other clubs on here.
Disgraceful!

You may have a point there - but we could make allowances for the ones we actually like?

It might not be helping the development as they are taking up places but the experience these players can pass on is essential. All teams have several players that fall into this bracket but I don't think its a problem at this stage. If teams entirely consisted of players players like Anderson, etc then it would be a different matter.
As long as the ruling stands this way we will see teams utilising it.

| You can't blame clubs for working within the rules, wether these rules, are to the benefit of the game and its development, are another matter.

| As has been stated before, the problem with reducing it further is that they must comply with employment law and European law, so anyone with an EU passport has the right to seek work in the UK.
The (voluntarily agreed) non-fed trained thing is supposed to deal with that, but it's taking a while to work through because the players in the system before it was brought in are exempt to avoid employment law issues.

How come their NRL clubs don't want to them to remain and pass on their knowledge and skill st their own youngsters then?

I'm sure that Latu will do a wonderful job of mentoring young players at Salford and passing on some of his wisdom; good luck with that one!

| I was under the impression that that the non federation trained exemptions were null and void once a player moved club, for example Feka and Bailey did not count against Wigans quota as they were recruited prior to the rule being introduced, but they would count against Salfords as they have moved whilst the rule is in place?

I think it was initially like that, but the threat of a potential legal challenge from exiting non quota imports who were already in the UK prior to Feb 08 forced the RFL to extend the ruling for the duration of the career in Sl.
