| Quote: oil "FYI, the shops in and around the Ridings DO NOT support the putting up of posters in their windows. They often ask for a daily fee or point blank say no. This has been tried on numerous occasions, and always unsuccessful.
If your wife does have an input in the Ridings and is a fan, then why not contact the Wildcats and ask them to drop some flyers/posters in? There are plenty of contact numbers/emails on the website.
But, as usual, you so called fans would prefer to slate the club.'"
The lady in the Ridings said she would have no problem putting up a poster, To be fair my wife did raise the point with the Ridings rather than simply ignoring the fact. I can't speak for the shops but surely they don't ALL have the same policy? . The reason I mentioned it on here was quite simply because mailing the club in the past amounts to zero feedback.

in the past year or so I have seen a change in the way the club has tried to respond to the fans in positive a way,
I have had replies to emails that have impressed me and they have donated season tickets to the Leon Walker predictions in which they didn't need to do.
I also know of someone that is in talks as a fans point of view about the new stadium at stanley, so the club do listen
so if you have a point put it to the club

Could well do. Most stores in and around shopping centres these days belong to chains who have a blanket policy that they do not display anything other than their own display material in their windows.
I work for a high street retailer with over 600 stores around the UK who have that policy.
Many years ago when I was a store manager for them (not in Wakefield), we were often appproached to put posters in the window for things like the circus, or a new local nightclub opening (usually in return for a few tickets).
As a high street retailer your best advertising space is your shop window, for which you probably pay a very high rent (particularly in shopping centres) so why give some of it away for free.
Often the best bet is the individually (and often locally) owned stores who do not have to stick to a company mandate.
I'm in absolute agreement that we need to improve the clubs visibility in the town centre, but in a way, can understand why many retailers will not oblige.

My original post was referring to the tourist but having said that those shops that won't put up a poster should be closed down forthwith as unpatriotic to Wakefield and violating the "Fabric of Society" act. Ok I know there isn't one but it's high time there was Cadburys choc anyone?

| hi this is only my 2nd post, so if some messages do get through to the club here goes ; i was at the last audience with and brought up the question as to why there are only a few of the merchandise advertised on the official club web site as being for sale, my point was that as a club we are loosing potential "floating" buyers of merchandise that don't live near enough to get to the shop all the time, diane said this would be addressed but i see there has been no change. I'm not having a dig cos i love wakefield trinity but i am sure we must be loosing sales of club merchandise because of this, also i don't know how big a job it would be to up date the shop part of the web site

| If The Ridings themselves are willing to advertise it though then we should take advantage of it.
I understand the majority of stores won't give us the window space but what about on entry doors to the shopping centre itself, that would be a start if The Ridings management are willing to help.

| I’d go one step further then advertising and hire a stall in the week running up to a home match in the Ridings. Have Daddy Cool there, a couple of players and have the stall sell tickets and a collection of merchandise.
According to the Ridings website, 250K visitors are attracted to the shopping centre every week. That’s a lot of people to target.
I’ll be honest and admit I’ve no idea of the costs but with the current climate I’m sure a deal could be done with the owners, or even trade off the hire for a little bit of free advertising at home matches.
I will say though it’s easy sitting behind a PC and theorising what could be done to boost crowds and in the real world there a many obstacles in the way, I would assume mainly financial. Also I have no idea if this has already been tried and was refused or did not produce the returns needed to make it viable.

| I think there are retailers in the Ridings which would be willing to get involved if it could benefit both parties.

| Nothing in the Ridings (or City Centre) this week either according to my mole (the wife). I know the Leeds game will sell itself but it's more than one game, it's product awareness too. Not suprising many of the kids in and around where I live know next to nothing about Trinity. Funny how "Rhino's" seem to trip easily off their tongues though. Sigh
