Talking of Smith, did anybody catch Dave Woods on radio Leeds speaking about him? Says he was unbeleivably intense and anal as a coach, even to the extent of having players in at 6am and texting them all hours about the game(s). He suggested that maybe his methods are out of date now and didn't seem overly suprised that we have apparently turned a corner once he has gone with an extra lease of life being injected into the players.

He said he had worked with him many times for long periods of time and was also a friend so no reason to think he had an axe to grind, he seemed reasonably constructive.

You maybe right who knows do we really care he's gone now, but one thing you can't argue with and that's as Vasty say's he certainly left a legacy of very good signings, which to his credit the new coach has seen the potential and is now reaping the reward from it.

His signings may or may not have been good - I remember you posting earlier in the season that these players just weren't good enough - but the fact is he couldn't get the best out of them so I struggle to see how thinking that Smith was not a particularly good coach for us makes someone a fool.

Smith turned a team that was just losing to anyone, into a team that could compete with the teams in the middle 8 and win back our place in Super League.
He then signed players and prepared the team for the Super League campaign who are now show that they are good signings and well prepared.

He's clearly got skills. It just didn't work out for him personally.
He always said don't judge him on round 1 as the team was new and needed some time, but to judge him on round 10.
Well we are now at round 10 and it looks good to me.

I know it's pedantic, but I said "probably" and I certainly never said all of them and none of them were the players Smith signed in the close season. As for the obvious fitness I fail to see how anyone can't credit Smith and his methods for that one - even if the players allegedly hated it.

Great to see you performing to your potential, you have some really exciting talent emerging, hopefully you can keep hold of it.

Looking forward to our visit in a couple of weeks. The last time we played we were a bit underwhelmed with the scoreline, but the results of both clubs since then have put the game into perspective. We just need to get the whipping boys out of the way next week, then its time for a real game.

Was only thinking yesterday before the game, about how good a coach Peter Fox was but eventually his methods went past their shelf life.
This Is practically what Woodsy was saying about Smith.

If you piece it all together, you come up with a picture of a man who is an organisational and tactical genius, but a very poor manager of people; maybe he would be much better suited to a DoR type role, although probably best if he avoided demanding that the owner give him a controlling share in the club.

Anyhow, however it happened, we have a perfect storm now of extremely well prepared players, few injuries, and a new coach who has them playing with a smile; enjoy it while it lasts!
