They obviously realise that they must win their next game. It is a shame he is not applying through the U.K. home office for a work visa he would probably not get one until next season.

| Quote: Wildmoggy "Just look at the props we have signed in the last 2-3 years, Green, Battye, Navarette, Tangata, the guy from London who's just another anonymous player. It just annoys me when certain people constantly say it's lack of funds for our constant being in the bottom 4. We had similar funds when we were knocking on the door of the top 4 just 4 years ago. I understand players in certain positions don't just fall out of the sky, but I think it's pretty obvious we've needed props for quite some time now, but have wasted money on players we just simply didn't need, i.e Atkins, Gigot etc. The squad always seems unevenly balanced to me.'"
That’s exactly as I see it
The prop issue was obvious last season
That’s it’s not being sorted going in to this year beggars belief
It may be fantasy rugby league but if we could have got Dave and his brother Andrew on the pitch together
Arona and battye would have completed them really well on rotation

| I think personally, at times we’ve panick bought some players just because they’ve become available, and the Gigot one was a perfect example.
With a low budget, we have to get the balance right and unfortunately, not got it right. We’ve been in need of a couple of quality props for a couple of years.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t agree with Gaskell instead of Rocky, and think Tashs’ contract extension was a little long, but other than that, 2 decent props, to replace Battye and Arona, I don’t think we’d have a bad squad. Whitbread isn’t flashy but gets through a fair bit of work.
Props are out there, as other clubs have managed to strengthen there. For me we desperately need one, that might just get us through. Would even look at deregistering Tupou, to free funds and a quota spot, for the right signing

First of all if you de register Tupou you would have to pay him up, solving nothing financially, this quota spot player you would want to replace Tupou with would come from where exactly? is there a club in this country that has a quota spot player available to us in the middle of the season, or would you dip into the bottomless pit in OZ we keep hearing about, bearing in mind the post below which I've put up as if true and I don't have a clue myself then it might not seem as easy as you think.

You make a couple of good points, it isn't that simple sometimes, and it's a juggling act at times. Does anyone actually have any info. re. Tupou's injury situation officially? I think it's a year ago in June when he got injured against Cas. Just on that, without wanting to bash the powers that be anymore! we did sign Langi didn't we, was he a replacement for Bill or not? Meaning if he had honoured his decision obviously we wouldn't have signed Hall, or at least I doubt we would have. Langi would have counted on the quota at the expense of who??

I think Hall might have been brought in more as a long term signing but ended up stepping up much earlier than anticipated?

| I don't know why some are down on Hood. Before he got injured the forwards were working really well.

Because he was signed by CC seems to be the reason.
He's not the player I was expecting TBH (style wise) but he's been a decent signing all the same.

We are back to the vicious circle as nearly all the clubs in SL were looking for props or have been for the last 2/3 seasons.
This basically means, back to the laws of supply and demand, that we have to be willing to pay over the odds for players in that position and over a number of years too.
The key is to pick up the rough diamonds like Fifita etc. Realistically the only way they are coming to Wakefield on the current market is it they have baggage. It’s a bit like Leilua rocking up at Fev. He’s only there because of all the issues he brings with him.
There is no quick fix. The best short term solution is a quality Prop messes up big time and is sacked or we can get someone on loan who isn’t getting game time, hard to think who though.
Longer term increased revenue from the redeveloped stadium and not having to rely on the market as we develop our own, which the club is doing really well at, however that takes time.

Yeah i'm not sure about Hall as to when he was signed, but like you say he certainly has stepped up to the mark, but he's British so my point was about Langi. If he had come, then Whitbread wouldn't be here?? He's the only overseas player we signed, I assume the Army bloke is British? Better give it a rest now as re. lack of props! We have what we have, it wouldn't surprise me though if we won 2 out of the next 3 then lost 6 on the bounce, it seems to be that kind of season maybe......

I agree, he's been ok and has done as much as I expected. He was good at Warrington, but that's the point, all our forwards looked good there, Arona was offloading, Ashurst looked like his old-self, but was that because they weren't great, and haven't been all season??

Although I broadly agree now that we are possibly a few forwards light (hands up I thought we were ok), this largely unchanged pack still managed to get WP six wins last year.
My point is that the rest of SL has not changed that much that they can't do it again. I accept we are weak upfront compared to what we were a few years back but not so weak that we can't compete, nothing has changed that much in ten-month.
We just need to get back to basics and we will win games again.
