Saw a stat saying since 2017 Hampshire was 3rd fastest at the club behind TJ and MCB.

Of course it helps and his tries were all well taken but it isn't everything.
If Fifita had played every game it's likely he'd have challenged him for that honour too.
For me we are comparing our version of Barba v Coote.
Barba scored some great tries whereas Coote makes the team tick and they all score tries. Sts fans loved Barba but soon forgot when Coote came.
Hampshire is a Barba type.
Sometimes what you need. Sometimes not.

| Hampshire was a player who could fill several positions which would have given us cover for the wing, full back and probably most importantly in the halves. I think it was a mistake to allow him to leave but I am not the one who will have to put up with the flack if Brough does not show greater consistency.
I would rather invest in a player of Hampshire’s age and ability than waste money on an ageing player whose best performances are only now visible in their rear view mirrors.

You justified Hampshire's. Credentials by saying he was top try scorer.
I was commenting on that and just made a general point about Hampshire and why I might say that speed isn't everything.
If we are only talking about wingers he wouldn't have got a game if he'd stayed once everyone was fit.

The key point for me is as SP states, Hampshire can play to a decent level in 3 positions. He also seems to have a knack of staying relatively injury free. These are in my opinion huge benefits for a club like ours with a relatively small budget.
We don’t know what contract the club offered him or how much more he wanted, but I don’t expect it would have been silly money and therefore for the reasons stated above, in my opinion it would be value for money against the potential signing of escare (who Chester seems to like) is more suited to full back (we already have two specialists for that position in the squad) and would no doubt cost more in wages

But didn't Hampshire also top the try assists last season when he got a decent run at 7? Showing he created chances and try`s for the others around him?

| Have no idea if true but i have seen Rocky offered £60,000 per year but eanted more.
Not knowing what players earn makes it almost impossible to acess if thats avetage or good. If true 60000 seems a very good wage to me with the average salary reported to be around £30000 iin the every day world. , also how many clubs would have that kind of money available at this stage to accommodate that kind of money.

| Hampshire has gone, it’s over, for whatever reason neither party could reach a solution so for chuff sake move on.
It’s a team game and it’s the coaches job to create a team and if he doesn’t think a player is worth the amount of his limited budget that he’s requesting then so be it, it’s the blokes job for heavens sake.
Would I have liked him to stay? Yes
Would I have liked him to stay at any price? Absolutely not!
Do I think it’s a mistake? Not really. For starters he’s not that good, he’d still be at Wigan if he were, think about it. If you minus all this local boy stuff which truly annoys me, he’s a handy player and not some misunderstood genius.
Finally he’s had this merry dance with every club he’s ever played at, I don’t know the ins or outs but none of them seemed willing to move heaven and earth to keep him, again think about it.
I’ve enjoyed watching him I really have and I wish him well in the future but no player is bigger than the club! If MC and CC are only willing to pay him X and no more then so be it.
My new loyalty is with the whole of the 2020 team and he ain’t in it and that should be the end of it.
No Hampshire the martyr for me.

We can't possibly know what the numbers were so it doesn't help to guess. Anyone that does know and posts them would be breaching the AUP so better to stay away from it.
But he's entitled to want more, the club are entitled to limit their offer to what they think is fair. If they don't match its a bit of a problem.
