| Quote: vastman "Give over and join the real world. You couldn't get a playing card between Tory and Labour core policies these days - that ship sailed years ago. The only difference is how efficiently they are carrying out policy - which in Labours case was diabolical leading to them leaving the country virtually bankrupt for the second time.
I'm a non religious - non political animal, I don't need anyone to tell me how to think. However I prefer Tories generally because they (the politicians) generally know what they are, self serving and greedy. Labour politicians and some supporters are the same but seem to take the moral high ground without any justification as far as I can tell. Box is one of these, what we need is someone who care for the city and not his own survival - whatever their politics. I can tell you now having met a rosette wearing Box a few times I can assure you that he had very little compassion about him as far as I could tell.'"
Give over telling me to give over or I'll set Dennis Skinner on you and he'll do more than tell you to give over.

| We're stuck with Box at least until the next Labour Government. The very few people that vote at local elections only use them as a protest against the National ruling party of the day. Labour nearly lost their majority in Wakefield when Brown was P.M. but I doubt I'll see a Labour Government in my lifetime looking at the current representatives. Would have liked Scotland the not so brave to have broken away just to make it virtually impossible though.

Can't say I'm really bothered, I just thought I'd be a bit mischievous going off topic by asking a question about Cas's ground on the Peter Box thread.

| You make a very good point Chissitt
I'm going to start to keep this to a Cas Ground discussion now.
If we don't have anything to say on t hat any more, we can just let the thread slip away.

Rather than me raping the English language, it was just a genuine spelling mistake mate. That and I'd just got back from a mind numbling boring trip to London and back just for a one hour meeting.

It is iritating though when you see the yank versions of our language everywhere. At work I'm forever correcting words like Fiber, Sulfur and Meter. The worst example we see in everyday life must be the supposedly British Holiday experience Parcs!

A lot of it's down to US spell checks and autocorrect. However, like King Canute before us, resistance is futile. Youth culture is swamped with americanisms. Sulfur is now the accepted spelling in British GCSE text books.
Even Cas' stadium is called the meh jungle???

The old site with Waystone, yes.
The new site opposite side of J32 with Lateral, no. It's still in consideration for planning. Even if it gets through, it will go to public inquiry IMO simply for the factors involved.

A few Cas fans I have spoke to think it will be quite a smooth process, think they have had a few residents in the area objecting to the build.
Will be interesting to see if this has as many problems as Newmarket.'"
It has been submitted to the council for consideration. The deadline for hearing it is meant to be the end of next month but I've heard that this may be put back to the New Year now as it seems WMDC struggling to get through all the applications. One from March for the changing of B and Q to a Sainsbury's still yet to be heard.
I think there is a public demand from Castleford and surrounding areas and a recognition for the jobs, economic benefits and also the new stadium for Cas for it but as both clubs know, these things very rarely run smoothly or to plan.

Having said that, they seem to have their fair share of NIMBYS over there as well.'"
Last I looked, Peter Box wasn't on the Planning Committee, nor is he the Secretary of State who adjudges to call it in for a public inquiry.
He may have affiliations with the Tigers but there is some straw clutching going on, particularly as the council have supported your application at Newmarket (regardless of what is going on now), even offering to pay the design fees if I remember rightly should it fail - link here: www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news/ ... s-1-974313. Perhaps you can point me to where Cas got offered the same help?

Can we get things straight. It's not Wakefield Trinity's application its the Stadium Trust's application and it is they who will own the Stadium not Wakefield Trinity who will be tenants paying a rent to the Trust.
The Stadium at Glasshoughton was to be owned by Castleford Tigers and that being a private company it cannot receive "gifts" of public money.

Wasn't it a private company that submitted the planning permission, ergo wouldn't the money be going towards a private company? And indeed, the Stadium Trust was going to own the stadium, they weren't paying for it; again, the stadium was being part-paid by a private company (Yorkcourt).
And Cas could quite easily have set up a trust as has been stated; however, this is going over old ground that we don't need to go over. The point was that there was a lot of council bashing on here and yet they have provided support to you guys with your stadium plans. They could have rejected the application, they didn't; they could have stood by and folded when Leeds opposed it, they didn't; they could have told you they weren't prepared to pay the above nor offer a £2m loan/grant/money, they didn't. They could have given in at public inquiry, they didn't.
Let's face it, any Cllr in this district regardless of affinity will want to deliver what the people want - it gets them votes. Quite frankly, if they didn't, they'd be out the door faster than you can say Maggie Thatcher.
