Quote: Fordy "Reality check time guys.

We are above London and Widnes
We are 2 points off Cas and Salford (with a game in hand - yes I know it's against Leeds but it is still there)
Attack has not been good enough (we are 2nd worst in the league for points scored)
Defence although it has been shaky at times still measures up fairly well (we have conceded less than the 4 teams around us anmed above and only 6 more than Hull KR)

When we get Lauititi back I hope we will see some improvement - I think we've missed him in attack recently (although would still rather see him come off the bench than start)
Southern has been a bit of a strange situation with plenty of rumours around as to why he has been out. I'd like to see him come back in at his natural position and see what he can do.

I would like to see some of the youngsters given a chance but they need to be brought in one or two at a time. Slater looks a really good prospect defensively (much like his dad) but I've not seen much from an attacking point of view. Lillycrop has shown up well at prop when I've seen him but it's a big step up for him. Annakin can be devastating at times but always seems to spend a lot of time on the periphery of games and not get massively involved apart from the odd burst.
Wildie at least got a chance last week.

We are competing in the bottom 3rd group and that is realistically about all we could expect from this season IMO. We need a minor miracle to make the top 8 but we still have a very good chance of finishing 3 or 4 places above where we were last season which would be a clear improvement.'"

Well said, especially the last paragraph.

So are you guys saying that what we've seen this year is acceptable and that people will pay to watch it?

I don't as yet see how we're going to end up any higher than last year, which seems to be a travesty to AG who's money has helped to recruit a significantly better squad than last years.

The other problem being that our crowds are noticeably thinning out - and will continue to do so if we fail to pick up the tempo on the pitch. All this will eventually mean that investment in the side will shrivel and die and we will be back where we started.

The only people that I have any issue with are the players and coaches - they need to get their sights focussed and get some results on the board - and quick!

A win against Wire - daft as it sounds - would end this debate almost overnight (for a while at least!) icon_razz.gifRAY:

Come on Phil, you know me and I am not happy with the way things are going on the pitch but I think anyone who thought we were going to suddenly transform 17 new signings (mainly made up of players that other teams didn't want) into a top 8 side in the space of half a season was being unrealistic.

I think we are lacking some of the grit and determination that we have seen from Wakefield sides of the past and maybe some of that is actually down to the fact that we have a bit more money to spend and are not totally relying on the backs to the wall spirit of previous campaigns.

I also don't agree with some of the decisions the coach has made re who makes the 19 and then the actual make up of the 17 from that.

However we are where we are, with a brand new squad, brand new coach, assistant, conditioner etc.

It has to be a slow building process from there to get us where we want to be in 2 or 3 years time.

Having said all of that we were led to believe that RA was very knowlegeable about our youth setup and the players in there but as yet he has still to prove that to be the case. As I said before I think now is the time to start blooding a couple of them per game to get them ready for next season when they should play a bigger part. We need them to, we need local lads who are going to have some pride in the shirt.

However if we can finish 10th or 11th then we have done OK, at the moment that is not exactly out of our reach is it?

What I'm saying is that some people should demonstrate the same forbearance for the new regime that you used to preach for the old one, and that was after years of poor results, as opposed to just a few months.

We were always going to be fighting for a place in the bottom third this season - if we're doing the same thing next year, then I'll join you in negativity corner; for now, I just wish people would be realistic.

Read my quote back Bren - I have sympathy for the new owners! If you're going to pontificate - get it right!

I happen to believe that our players are better than last years and I want more from them - I certainly would for the extra Wonga on offer - and no, I don't accept that I'm wrong for wanting more - I've been through enough crap thank you very much!

I want nothing more than for this to end - but I don't see an end in sight - yet!

I don't imagine for a minute that AG and Co feel that they need sympathy and certainly not when it comes to RA, in whom they've placed their trust and confidence; rather, they probably want exactly what I've asked for - patience, realism and a bit of faith in the fact that this year was very much about rehab and recovery, working towards rebuilding and planning for the future.

If you expected anything more from this season than what you're getting, I'd suggest that the fault lies with your expectations.

#2012yearofthewildcats icon_rolleyes.gif

Come on - I don't think I'm the only one who was expecting more - in fact I reckon people are adjusting their expecatations downwards in order to make themselves more comfortable with where we are.

With that squad we SHOULD be better than we are - and when I turn up for a game I expect my team to do so too. I really don't think I'm asking too much in that!

I feel a combination of frustration, disappointment and anger that we are in this situation - more so because it was obvious where we were heading earlier in the season when no one wanted to listen to me then either - I feel like a fart in a spacesuit at the moment! (I really should get used to that! icon_sad.gif )

Being one of those lesser mortals who knows sweet FA because I have not played the game for a living, I am with TRB and stupidly expecting a little more this season. Not having a dig at you but surely if this was a rebuilding job we would have a makeshift squad and coach. But we havn't, we have a squad and coaching staff signed up for three seasons(all bar a few).
So in my very simplistic way I just can't see how what we have now will suddenly be light years better because they will be playing in 2013 and not 2012.

However you have also said the word 'rebuilding' if by that term you diplomaticaly mean a mini clearout of some of our overseas contingent , then if this were to happen I may also feel more confident.

At the moment, I am struggling to want to go to games. It involves a lot of travel for me, on a motorway that is limited to 50mph for half of the way, and so it involves some effort and expense. In past years, the struggles against adversity and sometimes the promise of good times, with play-off finishes, have made it all worth while. I thought we had turned the corner, but we are basement-dwellers again, and I have no confidence at all for the rest of the season. We have no chance of the play-offs, and we will finish thirteenth. I won't be renewing my season ticket (although I will, when I'm in a better mood).

I have given Agar the benefit of the doubt so far, but I have run out of benefit. It's not as if he comes with credentials from anywhere else, because he doesn't.

We should have given Kear a chance with a good squad, and let him build it. Now, we have a "job for my mate" coach and a wasted season. I'm not wasting any more afternoons or petrol.
