To be honest I think he probably moved inside during games before he officially moved positions. Especially in defense.

| Ged byrne, wan't he a record signing? Come to think of it he still might be. I remember the galmour of signing a player from Wigan. His inventive half back partnership with mark Conway will stay in the memory for a long time. Who'd have thought that after nearly 100 years of RL it took these two to come together to invent the 'walk around' - shame it didn't develop to be more effective than its close cousin the 'run around'!

Byrne was most famous for his wind ups. They had to retake the official team photo in his season as he had sneaked his 'pork sword' out of his shorts when no one was looking. Caught on camera and they decided it would probably be best to retake!?!?
Not sure about the record signing bit though.

Now Tracy Lazenby could do the run around

| Tracey Lazenby! What a player! Never seen someone look so scruffy and un-interested, but on his day could turn a game in an instant.

Ged Byrne was another good centre we had, think he was only there for one season?'" Ged was more known for his hard hitting in the tackle, Brian Jackson was a favourite of mine

I don't care if we win, lose or draw as long as the team gives 100% every week and each player wears the shirt with pride.: |

I liked Brian Jackson too. Big, strong lad, who loved a scrap and he hit very hard in the tackle.
Darren Fritz was a favourite of mine too. I will never forget the Challenge Cup game when we played Runcorn Highfield at home and the sight of Darren Fritz running down the field with what looked like 5 blokes on his back LOL
Priceless!
Other players that stood out for me were:-
- Steve Ella - Class act
- Ray Price - Still amazing when he came to us
- Henry Paul - A different class at the time
- Andy Mason - Ahead of his time for me, very fast, underated, great warm up routine
- Michael Jackson - a surprise package, whatever happened to him ???
- Geoff Bagnall - A real leader and very underated player
- Nigel Bell - A real work horse and put his body on the line week after week for the team
- Nigel Wright - Shame he didn't reach his full potential but on his day was a very clever and intelligent player.
- Gareth Ellis - Best homegrown player I've seen at Wakefield, you could see he had the potential and he's developed into a far better player than I ever imagined TBF to the lad.
I'm sure there's many more I've missed.....

Laurie Daley actually had knee ligament damage and had to withdraw from his contract and he didn't play out the end of that NRL season.Think he also had a shoulder problem.
He did sign before he picked up the injury albeit everybody saying it was just a publicity stunt.

| Just been having another trip down memory lane and a name that crept in to my head and I don't think he's had a mention in this thread is Sonny Whakaru, he was a great player for us, imagine him Willie and Sololmona as a back three with Westwood and Ellis interchanging!
Two players I used to love weatching but weren't greats were the SDouth African Nick du Toit and Paul Round, two real rough houses who shall we say played it close to the edge! We've been pretty lucky in the back row department when we look back and with the signing of Morrison, the emergence of Fergie and the expected signing of Galea it looks like we'll be strong there again. In recent years we've struggled in the three quarters, lets hope Millard goes some way to altering this, really looking forward to see him play.

| Does anyone remember the winger David Jones we signed from Oldham? Took ages to get his fist try but seemed to make a break every time he got the ball. I think him and Paul Round came together.

| David Jones the bingo caller.
Another winger and fav of mine was Keith Slater, I think (and the memory is going) he once scored 7 in a match, but could be wrong!

| Remember Jonah catching Offiah at Belle Vue when Offiah had ten yards start on him, was strong as an ox in defense but never seemed to take them on in attack even though he had pace to burn, came inside every time he got the ball. Bet he was one of the first names on the team sheet as he very rarely made a mistake.
