Not convinced he's that big a fish - just that he thinks he is!
Wish him well, but he does need to work on the technical stuff before he can be the player he wants to be.
Agree he needs to move on to develop.

| Quote: J.T "Seem to remember you claiming his 'nailed on' signing a couple of seasons ago or was that not the case?'"
Not me pall, i said we were in negotiations to sign him, he wanted to come and that Wakefields terms were not agreable to Wigan due to the nature of the cash plus players.

| If he goes then so be it. It'll be a deal which suits us as he is under contract and i have faith in Kear and the board. Atkins himself hasn't developed as most would have hoped and it'll probably be a deal that suits both parties.
I'm sure we'll bring in better or at least someone who will give 100% and take the opportunity with open arms

| I'm not normally one for whispers and rumours but I'm led to believe (perhaps foolishly or otherwise) that in order to compete with other clubs' offers we've had to improve the deal of just one of Danny Brough and Ryan Atkins... so we'd only get to keep one of them.

Myler is going so can't see why Brough would be a target. Will be interesting to see the Solomona Atkins partnership fire up again at Wire, it was a great combination for you but can it spark again given Solo's advancing years and injury problems.

| I didn't mean Wire were after Brough, I just meant we were competing with all other clubs' offers and would only offer increased terms to one of Atkins and Brough. Makes sense if that's the case.

Brough still has a year left on his current contract and Atkins two years so why do we have to improve their deals. Also Tronc, Morrison, Newton, and allegedly Millard arent exactly coming for a laugh, Point being if Kear is getting rid its because Kear wants to not because he has to.

I thought Atkins cames to us as a 'make-weight' as part of the solomona deal?

| Whatever anyone thinks the sad fact is that potentially good as Atkins is his going will have little effect on the team. He will be easily replaces because he simply has not moved on in the last season or so. That's not to say he won't, he probably needs a change. But for us he has not become the lethal strike weapon we hoped for, in fact Gleeson is often the more clued up of the two.
As I say he is not a bad player at all and it's a shame he is going but he is not pivotal to the team and can be replaced IMHO with minimum fuss.
Must make clear I'm not bagging him because he is leaving I'd preferred him to stay but I'd have preferred Snitch to stay far more, ho hum. Warrington on the other hand are getting a player with potential and I wish them both well.

because if we improve the contract now we sign him up for longer best for both parties.

Well thanks for that pearl of wisdom I never thought of that. The post from CL was about both Brough and Atkins because you have said him and not them presumably you mean Brough and accept that Atkins is on his way. Do you think that Wakefield arent interested in keeping Brough by offering him an improved contract or could it be that there is one on the table waiting for him, it might be too much for you to take in but my money would be on the latter hth.
