He'll be competing at the very top of the sport I the northern hemisphere. An inch here or 5lbs there could be the difference between being picked or someone else taking your spot.
Accurate information is essential not only for the analysts and coaches but the for the fans too.'"
So you think the club gets its info from me and Wikipedia do you? Ok matey if you say so.
Ditto you think that players get picked on whether they are one inch taller!
I’ll be sure to get my info to a more accurate tolerance in future, wouldn’t want to jeopardise his future.
Fifita still joining Leigh is he?

Both very presumptuous to state Wiki, I never said which I thought was right or wrong just that multiple sources for the same information, that don't match is dangerous.
If you don't think that half an inch or 5lbs matters at the pinnacle of a sport, then you need to genuinely look into sport science and the research behind each and every player at the club. This isn't the 60's anymore, there are very few players who wi make the teamsheet without the statistics being reviewed first, which funnily enough would include height and weight. I'm not saying (weirdly never did) that Poching checks Wikipedia or the NRL site but as its accessible information to anyone, it is important that its accurate.
Strange thing to bring up on this thread, even stranger to compose your question like that. It almost suggests as if i said it was nailed on and not a rumour on the Leigh board. Now was it a genuine question or another pathetic attempt to try and bully someone on here?

| You are right it does matter, but only based on your accepted starting point.
If you want to talk sports science then great but that does not include unsubstantiated stats from Kevin on the Internet.
If you are signing someone you find out their actual stats yourself for a start off. And work out whether he is effective based on those stats.
PP is a good example. Does 5llbs matter to him. Yes. But not because he's too big or small but because he is unfit and less effective.
No one is going to look at Whitbread and say "oh I wish he was an inch taller"
They are going to assess, based on whatever height he is, whether he's effective at running with the ball or tackling.

Point missed.
Others are quoting specific size/weight as a fact and a positive about a player on this forum themselves when there is recorded information on reputable websites such as the NRL league and Gold Coast Titans club websites which state differently.
I knew I would draw the response I did.

I was responding to Timmy where he said the difference mattered.
I've no problem with your post.

I think you get a bit more leeway when you are a local squad player who has come up through the club. Can't be the same when you are bringing someone to use up a quota spot. Not criticising Whitbread btw just commenting on the Annakin analogy.

| Size of the players heart as well as stature and fitness is also a huge consideration for me and will quickly find them out especially in the forwards .We’ve have a few man mountains in our recent history who should have been pulling trees up and striking the fear of god into the opposition , but for whatever reason they played like damp squibs ,so physically size is important in said position but they certainly must have a heart to match or it’s game over in my books .

Unfortunately Annakin certain would have benefitted from more size.

Couldn’t fault his commitment and never took a backwards step unlike some of our more so called illustrious players

A good big un will always beat a good little un, I’ve heard a few times but nobody told Nigel Bell that!

| There are always exceptions to the rules and I’d put Jonny T into that category, but you’ve only to look at walmsley to see how size matters and helps when you get to a certain level .

A good big one Will always beat a good little one.
The belly example was an exceptionally good average size one beating lots of big ones.
But if he'd been built like Sam Burgess he'd have been an all time great international rather than a well respected club man.

Will always remember Bob Gant saying to Nige Murray in the dressing room after an A team game: If you had my heart in your body we'd be an international.
