| Quote comeontrinity="comeontrinity"Looking at the London forum if you take what there saying as true then I can’t imagine London letting battye go at the moment as they seem to have lost a lot of props too and are pretty short in that position. I can’t imagine we’re on any position to buy out anyone’s contract either at this time so just can’t see him coming this year as much as I really like him to. But he had only 1 year left on his contract there so would deffo like to think we would be looking to have him on our books next year if we still wanted him. Closer to home and already played for us should give us the edge on other clubs.
This year though we do need another prop and would like to think that the club are actively looking, just need to find the right fit and for now that might just have to be a complete unknown. Who knows we’ve done ok in the past with these players.
This year again for me is just getting to the end of it and not relegated. Would love to find ourselves being competitive and in the upper half of the table, which our squad is capable of. This years just going to be another lash up as far as the competition goes as like last year but hopefully by the end of the year the world will be a brighter and more settled place.'"
Never believe these forums!

| Find it strange that londan are denying a player that will be 30 this year a chance to play super league.i know they let him come on loan but its not the same and yes if wakefield was in same postion as london im sure MC would allow players to go to sl clubs

I don't think they are, most players have a get-out clause for SL though not all and even if they don't they can make it very clear they won't be very available if they are not allowed to go. From what I understand it's Battye who wishes to be honourable and see out his contract if London insists, which gives London a whip hand in the deal that they wouldn't have with a less loyal player.
Hats off to the lad if true, makes him an even more desirable player to me. If I had a free 20k I'd pay London the compensation.

| It’s probably easier for battye to not need to jump for a super league contract tbh. He’s not that many playing years left in him even if they might be his best and from what I father he’s pretty much sorted for life after rugby with his family’s business. Would really like to see him turn out for trinity again sometime soon though.

He was Londons stand out player in 2019 yets nobody seemed to go for him, that's probably why. I think his signing is looking unlikely now tbh, shame but there you go.
I also think it's worth pointing out that I don't believe it's as easy to tempt players to SL as we like to think. By the time a player is for example 23 he probably already has a career outside of RL. Sometimes a very good one. Yet because he's untried at SL level most clubs are unwilling to offer a long term contract or in many cases the same wage that his Job and part-time RL contract owes him. There are a lot of Championship players who's joint earnings are quite a lot higher than you're average first contract SL player.
Battye is slightly different because I believe he can put his part in the family farm on-hold to some extent, whereas a young lad who's got a good job in construction for example can't.

I'm sure I read in an interview with Chester last year that we approached Battye at the end of 2019 but they'd offered him a longer contract. Still time for the move to happen, but it'll be on London's terms as it should be.

He (Battye) could come unstuck if SL gets started and the Championship doesn't.
However, in the modern world, it's very good to see someone with that level of loyalty and this is definitely the type of player that any club would want.

Stop being ridiculous, they are just moving up to the first team training squad like happens every year. This is what people moan never happens and when it does they still moan.
Do you seriously think either of these lads will play first team this season other than perhaps a CCup game early round from the bench. It would take a monumental injury crisis worse than 2019 for that.
We get it you’re an unhappy bunny but let’s not stray into fantasy.
Great work by the club, welcome on board lads, hope you do well. See, not hard.

Nah he won’t, he’s a rarity in RL being a man with a private income. He plays for the fun of it so it’s easy for him to be loyal though I’m not doubting he is loyal.
Truth is by the time you take travel and the wages London pay he’s not doing it for the money. I think if we could offer him a good chance of winning medals that would sway him but it would be hard to convince any player of that after the last 18 month.
As I say hope he joins us but it doesn’t look likely any more, shame.
