Once a Sandal Wild Cat always a Sandal Wild Cat. Some talk of Bradford Northern and some of Hull and Leeds Of Wigan and St Helens and such great teams as these Of all the teams in Rugby league with me you will agree The best team in the whole wide world is Wakefield Trinity! The stadium is an appropriate size and well appointed following significant investment in recent years. The club has been in the difficult position of seeking to take into account the club’s historical attendance and playing records but naturally distancing itself from the previous regime’s financial record. The current company has only been in existence for a few months following insolvency in October 2007. Early indications are that under new ownership the club has made very good progress so far and has attracted good sponsors and the support of the local authority. The club has maintained a reasonable playing infrastructure despite being in the National League but this would require further investment to ensure that they could be competitive in Super League particularly within Club Trained rule

We were basically told that no matter how good the new owners were, they basically had to prove themselves 1st before we could be considered for a licence. Thats the official version, the more cynical person might say the RFL were looking for any excuse to exclude one team, whether that was Widnes, Wakefield, Salford or Castleford. This time round, Wakey could find themsleves in the wrong place at the wrong time, no matter how rich the new owners might be.'"

This is the key part that differs:
"The club has maintained a reasonable playing infrastructure despite being in the National League but this would require further investment to ensure that they could be competitive in Super League particularly within Club Trained rule"

WT don't need further investment to play competitively in the SL- we have been doing that for years! We have an established core and a vast army of lethargic support which could be easily galvanized with the right leadership.

That's very interesting - especially this bit, as it suggests to me that they used the excuse that your academy would not be set up sufficiently to produce the line of players required, where-as the Wakefield one is competitive within SL and has produced a Championship winning side who are now approaching the age to start breaking through into the side. eusa_think.gif

Today was mooted.

That was the case before the HMRC date was delayed (although that is still unconfirmed) as we would have to be in administration to have the associated benefits and protections, however if the hearing is delayed the time scale changes. And the only people who would know would be the administrators, the club, the owners, their wives, their wives tennis partners (to quote Blackadder)...

Everything will come to fruition, we just have to wait.

Quote: bren2k "Bitter much?

The process of administration is far from a perfect system, but it's the only one we've got; that being the case, I'd worry about the business acumen of any new owner who didn't use a perfectly legal process in order to unburden the club of debt prior to taking ownership.

Your respose has answered my rhetorical question by the way.'"

I don't understand how my suggestion that entering administration should not be congratulated can be attributed to bitterness. I accept the probity, and even the sense, of using the option but it's not big and it's not clever to do so and I just found the seeking of back-slaps all round a bit incongruous.

They have only just gone up on the public access system this afternoon though, even though the validated date is 27th Jan. Presumably, that is when the balance cheque arrived at Newton Bar and once cleared they grant access.

I don't see any seeking of back-slaps; collectively, I think we're embarassed to be in this situation and have become rather tired of the humiliating chants and quips of other fans. You'll forgive us for expressing our feelings of relief and optimism therefore, if we see a light at the end of what has been a very long and very dark tunnel? Further - it is possible for us to feel relieved and hopeful about the future of our club without revelling in the fate of those people that our erstwhile BoD have left high and dry.

Get off your high horse perhaps?

"Castleford's biggest home crowd of the 1991-1992 season wasn't quite 12,000 while on average they'd sit around 6000 but the noise, the chanting and the singing just blows you away" - Tawera Nikau "Standing Tall" "I can tell you the atmosphere was extraordinary at Wheldon Road on big days.
