Getting back to the original topic....
My first matches at BV were on Saturday afternoons in the late '70's when my mates dad used to take us down to watch the "A-team" play (NO...NOT B.A. BARRACUS and his mates

), and we always used to operate the old scoreboard on the North Terrace (remember the one that was about 100 feet tall, and looked fit to topple in any half-decent gust of wind), anyway after a couple of seasons doing that we got told that the old guy who used to do it for the first team was retiring, and we were asked if we would do it for the first team on a Sunday (dream shot or what ???) We then had the best seat in the house for free, and despite the occasional cock-up or numbers flying off in high winds, spent many a happy hour up there before then being moved to the South end of the ground, and the new small scale scoreboard, where I particularly remember one game against Wigan who were in their prime, and they eventually beat us 72 - 0 (I think, or something similar)....I know my arms were dropping off at the end of the game !!!
Other memories include :-
The Leeds game, coming back from 18-0 down.
Can't remember the opposition, but we restarted and the opposition scrum half went to catch the high ball, knocked on big style right in front of the posts, and was so annoyed with himself, he forgot to drop on the ball, and Nigel Bell just picked it up and raced under the sticks
David Jones doing his best every week to try and run straight [u
through[/u the opposition players.
"Stretcher Fletcher's" mazy runs and wicked side-steps.
Toppo ghosting through from anywhere on the park.
Bill Ashurst with his dodgy knees
Andy Fisher coming on as sub in his first game, and then getting sent off 30 seconds later
Having both mine and my brothers tyres slashed on Oakenshaw Street by some pi$$ed up local resident who didn't like us parking outside his house, but the moron left us a note on our windscreens virtually admitting he had done it, so he spent a night in the cells at Wood Street
Good times...nearly all good memories !!!
