| Quote vastman="vastman"Think it might settle a little but thought that might happen. Because I couldn't work out how the new East stand wasn't going to be considerably higher than the pitch if you look at the drop from the carpark to the pitch. Now it should be about right. Eve affect the North stand slightly.
These are the perils of doing up old grounds, there will be compromises, but the west terrace is a big one.'"
If the pitch is 2 foot higher than before, then some sort of retaining wall will be needed. For example, the north end and south end have steel/wooden fence, (nothing to retain two foot extra height) East and west side pitch level are almost level with the current wall. Without a retaining wall on all four side there is nothing to hold the new pitch groundwork.

I'm yet to be convinced it is 2 foot higher to be honest, higher yes but not by that much.
If you take a look at a lot of football pitched they nearly all slope down at the sides, it's very common.
This is Old Trafford, surprised me first time I saw it a few years back.

| Saves money on export of material if the pitch is higher than the original. Will have to check the topographical survey existing levels again the proposed levels of the East Stand to see if its deliberate.

'"
If you remember, just before the last World Cup Final the Aussies whinged about the drop-offs at Old Trafford, stating they were unsafe, as they come straight after a shallow in-goal. Lo and behold, they had a couple of high leapers dropping a lot further than they realised during the match, something I've never seen during a Grand Final (I suspect that is why they go for the grubbers rather than the high balls).
I assume the North South refurb will take that into account. The away fans on the West Terrace will just have to bring a set of steps with them.

I'm not trying to convince you, or anyone.
I'm passing on what I was told by someone at the club.
It's "amusing" on a couple of fronts = the club were unaware that it would happen and those at the front of the West terrace will need a periscope to see the pitch now.

| Saw Rick Wakeman in Lee Moor club about 25 years ago.
Although a little before my time, could appreciate how good he was
