I totaly agree ! Long gone are the stand offs with pace to burn , you would not see toppo going 50 yards plus one i can remember and saw quite a bit of was John Woods at Leigh ! then again has it been coached out of them to pin there ears back .

I love to watch pace, wether half’s or outside backs, but the role mainly is to bring in the forwards , but nice to have it if space is available all the same.

It’s funny but many on here were glad to see him leave. I guess this is a sign of the times, with many supporters seeing our shortcomings in the number 7 spot. These same supporters having lost Hampshire know we need somebody because we cannot go another season with an ageing Brough, nor could we do our usual and use a utility player to fill this position.
I am sorry but two good games over a disastrous period cannot be glossed over, we survived but no one wants to go through it again. We have released a chunk of the squad so let’s hope the powers that be have plans to bring in players who will improve the team. I look forward to seeing our final list of signings at which point we will have a better chance to understand the clubs ambitions for next season.

Sam Williams got a lot of stick on here when he played for Trinity, but if people watched the Sky highlights after the games, they'd see just how involved he was with most of our tries. He didn't really stand out during a game, but the highlights always revealed an important level of involvement, and how key his kicks and passes were to us scoring tries.

I agree but would he come over again to play second string to another aged scrum half.

Doesn’t that just about sum the reaction about players up on here from certain posters, laughable at times.

When we knew Randall was leaving mid season, that is when we tried to sign the hooker from Featherstone. It was reported he wanted too much money (no doubt true) we opted for Salford’s third choice who I can’t remember turning out for them who I presume came within our price range.

I think you will find Brough is more likely to be sent out on loan if we get a very good replacement.
The key words here, "very good replacement" icon_smile.gif

If it’s the name I’ve heard that hasn’t been mentioned so far it would be a surprise for sure. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Paul Gallen type players can go two ways, they are either inspirational or hugely disruptive, usually the latter. To be a Paul Gallen you have to be on top of your game because they are that kind of player, anything less will be spotted immediately by the opposition and more importantly their own players. To be a lead from the front all action player you have to be just that.

Brough just about gets away with being a little bit past it by still possessing a set of non age related skills that occasionally win games, but on a bad day, well lets say it doesn’t go unnoticed. PG has no such luxury, he’s a player whose game is hugely based on physicality and endurance, both of which wain over time.

I’m not saying he couldn’t do it, he’s been a truly great player, but he’d better be sure because despite what many think SL is no picnic and it’s proved a graveyard for the reputation of many an NRL ‘star’ in the past.

He wouldn’t be second string if he came, he wouldn’t come if he was.

Williams is a decent HB but his true value is that he’s a known quantity to the club but far more importantly the club is known to him. This simply cannot be underrated, no rude awakening to life in the UK especially in winter. Teammates and opposition you know in a comp you understand, these are issues who’s importance cannot be underestimated.

For me if I were selecting players the above would make up 50% of a quota players desirability before I’d even started looking at the players stats. Basically to sign Williams would be to sign a players who hits the ground running.

No idea if he’s the one but I wouldn’t lose any sleep if he were, he’d be as close to a dead cert good signing as you can get IMO.

Before my time but that's the hope and I think its what we need tbh, if it paid off it would transform our team from good to watch (most of the time) to good to watch and hard to play against. We are short of an intimidating player, Dave tries but Gallon can be really borderline nasty, which you need at times.
