Agree with you with the MOTM, but maybe thats the way we're using wood? - Fetching him on to inject some pace and spark into our game? - Abit like we did with Latu?
But hes turned out to be a very good signing from Agar!

| for me it was ollie is effort on the pitch was excellent and he was the only wakefield forward what broke the line. he chewed up alot of metres, and was excellent in defence.

I weren't at Hull yesterday, but I've not seen anything from Wood in the first three games that suggests we are a better team with him in it. Whilst he looks lively, he disrupts our game plan, the other players seem unsure what he going to do and he is unable to control the play the ball like Aiton does. We're also wasting Aiton by moving him to loose and using him as a battering ram. I'd rather see Ellis as interchange hooker, or play Aiton for the full 80 minutes and have another forward on the bench.

| Ollie ran the ball in very well but I thought Wood gave us an extra spark when he came on and changed the flow of the game.

I don't think you'll find anyone who was at the game yesterday who'll argue with the fact that we only looked like a real attacking threat when Wood came on; he takes the line on, puts their defence on the back foot and backs himself - as evidenced by the try he scored by chasing down his own kick.
I'd like to see Smith and Wood start together - they seem to combine well.

We have been better in every game when Wood has come on - partly due to his own excellent play (tactical, running, passing and kicking), and partly due to him freeing up Aiton to run a bit at the line - which he looks dangerous doing.
Ellis and Wood for Hooker / Interchange and Aiton to share a backrow position / cover for half-back. That way you get to keep Smith and John together - we have to keep patient with them and hope that they can gel at some point - soon!

| Individually, I think Wood has done okay, but I just think we lack cohesion when he comes on and the team suffers. Also, Aiton looks devastating at dummy half, I'm not sure why we would want to play him anywhere else? As for Smith and John, at least one of them needs to start taking on the line or we will be in danger of playing some really fancy rugby with nothing to show for it. Having said that, I think it's too early too talk about splitting them up as they need time to build an understanding, but one of them needs to become the dominant partner, and for me that should be Smith.

I agree with this 100%.
I keep saying it, switch Aiton to 13, and have Ellis and wood at 9.
When Aiton has switched to 13 he attacks the line at speed, Wood and Ellis would give us the creativity at dummy half and it would mean we could bring Ali on from the bench when we are in the ascendency?

Aiton is too good at hooker to play 13. I agree with bringing Ali off the bench, but I'd drop Southern back into the second row and start with two recognised props.

Aiton looked anything but devastating at Dummy Half yesterday, I don't think I even noticed him for the first 40 minutes. Having said that you could say the same about the whole team in the first half yesterday.
The only time we looked anything like breaking their line was once Wood came on and livened things up.
According to the Agar interview on Radio Leeds after the game, we held back on bringing him on because of the injury to Kirmond and having to worry more about rotating the forwards. I personally think had we been able to bring him on earlier we would have won that game.
It's difficult because I'd like to see him given a starting spot but in place of who I don't know. I'd like to see us persist with the John/Smith partnership a bit longer but give them a warning that we need to see more from them or things will change.
If Wood was to spend 2 hours a day practicing kicking and make himself into a good goalkicker I think he would be a shoe-in, but I've said that before about any of the fringe players (not that a decent kicker would have helped that much yesterday as we didn't really have many chances to even attempt to go for goal).

| I like Aiton but he is not a hooker. You can see that he does not put any doubt in the defence because he moves sidways. Because he does not move forward, even just a couple of steps, the defence has an easy job. You can see against Bradford and Hull when Aiton was playing hooker their defensive line just moves up fast, it never gets put on the back foot because they know the hooker will not move forward. That is why, yesterday our kicking game was poor in the first half because our first receiver had no time before he was engulfed by the Hull defenders. On comes Wood, his first movement from dummy half is forward, their defence has to think so their line speed slows down, hey presto Smith and John have more time on the ball, our forwards made yards and we as a team start to look good. Look at Diskin and Lestrange in the Bradford game, they put us on the back foot all day. So for me we should play Aiton amd Washbrook at 13, one from the bench. Ellis, Wood and Wildie should be fighting it out for the hooking role.

| 1 Mathers,2 Cockayne,3 Wood.
Agree, with what has been said that we look a more dangerous team with Wood on the pitch, which has been the case in 3 out of the first 4 games.

| I think a lot of players mentioned from yesterday deserve credit. For me it is Wood, even though he didn't play the full match it is clear to see that after he came on we were more effective and scored two tries to make a tense finish.
I was very excited by all the talk of John yet for me I haven't seen anything yet which means he's guaranteed a spot at the start. We are a few weeks in now and I think that we have to think about getting some more league points.
One part of the match that really baffled me was towards the end of the first half. We were contesting a scrum against the head in our own half. For some reason Southern came out of the scrum and Mathers went in at loose forward. I could see exactly what was coming as could everyone since we were defending. Hull expectedly won the scrum then put a quick kick through and nearly scored because we did not have a full back!!!! Can someone please explain to me what we were thinking because it sure as hell confused me.

| Was a really tough marginal match in terrible conditions but I though Mathers was excellent as was Ollie and wood really changed the game for us when he came on, hope to see much more of this lad this season
