| I suspect they don't mind the stuff from the terraces, on the assumption that it is pantomime-stuff that ends at full time. What goes on the pitch stays on the pitch and all that. Social media is the problem as we all treat it like we are just sounding off between friends, like blokes in a pub, but no one would like our pub rants broadcast to the world, and to the earshot of those who are being ranted about.

| Quote: Daddycool "I think you should read the tweet from Gareth Walker from a Super League Referee’s wife, and then close down this discussion quickly. Referees are human beings. We may not like every decision they make, but they deserve respect. This place (not as much) and that Northstanders page are becoming so vitriolic and poisonous. Not just referees, but others associated with the Club, who are also life long fans, just doing their job to the best of their ability. And yet they get publicly lambasted, with their families directly or indirectly told about it, and the whole world to see. At times, it’s soul destroying for me, and I don’t get 1% of what referees, head coaches, or players get. It’s time to start thinking about we actually do and say.'"
I think I agree with your post up to a point DC. Obviously the "vitriolic and poisonous" comments should be a no go, but as a part of the Rugby League establishment I suppose your ""must be respected" element is what you would be expected to say. You say referees deserve respect. Well I was brought up to believe that respect should be earned, and there is no way that after the way that Child refereed Friday's match and many others previously, you could say that respect was earned. In my 64 years watching Trinity referees have always been subject to criticism and probably always will be. Your suggestion to close down the discussion on criticising referees is tantamount to censorship. In your position I suppose to criticise referees is taboo; to us, the spectator I'm afraid it isn't taboo.

And you’re happy that ‘criticising’ the referee (and we all know it’s more then that, it’s downright personal abuse) leads to a wife posting a public message about the effect his night’s ‘work’ has on her, his kids, his home life, and, god knows, their mental health. Well I’m sorry, but I draw the line at that. And, as I said in my earlier post, it’s not just referee’s. People working their socks off, for the good of this Club get some shameful abuse. If you are happy to condone that fine. But I see some of the complete guff that gets said. It rips my heart out, and I consider myself mentally strong. I’ve had people in tears in my office after reading personal abuse directed at them on social media. Don’t tell me it goes with the territory. That’s the excuse of the abusers. We need to remember that we are all human beings, and return to compassion and understanding, rather then always looking for someone to blame!

| How come it's ALWAYS the officials fault whenever Wakey get beat? Ever thought it maybe down to you having a pretty average side?
Jonno over on VT is spot-on about you blaming the ref for any defeat and moaning like this you continue to prove him right.

You might want to rein it in mate.
The message being discussed - the vitriolic verbal abuse of a ref at a game, reported by the wife - wasn't about Wfd v Hull. That means it's a 50% chance of it being the Saints game.
Your wider point; of course Wakey have moaning fans - every club does.
Abuse has got to stop!

agree with this - was it the ref that made Johnstone run it on half time that eventually cost us two. points that would of won the game- was it the ref that made Lynne drop the ball when we got with in six ?
If the ref really was biased and didn't want us to win he would of disallowed booth of johnstones tries that could of gone either way

How could he have done that?
They were clearly tries.
As usual you are commenting on something when you are not there.

Who are you talking about??
Out of the 5000 fans there supporting Wakey on Friday, exactly who are ALL these fans blaming the ref? Go on, make a list of posters on here who have blamed Child - there may be 10.
It's an urban myth that any club, never mind Wakey, always blame the ref. Hell, we've watched enough substandard teams in our time to know we aren't always competitive and don't need to find scapegoats.
Cut the hyperbole.

Always? I think if you look back at posts about our defeat v Hull KR in Rd 1 for example you'll see no blame other than we were crap.
The thread is about James Child, no one else. There is nothing better than seeing any other guy getting appointed to our fixture. We love other refs.
