I would wait all day and watch half a dozen ice cream vans come and go so that I could get proper ice cream from Lumbs.

I liked Lumbys but antonios couldn't be beaten for value. Used to live riding on the back of the shop van to see how long you could go before he sussed you where on there!

i was a fan of lumb's as well. i remember that the shop on barnsley road was one of the very few shops (like the bon bon) that was open on a sunday.

also, lumb's used to stop right outside our house. the carton of ice cream we bought used to fill up the little freezer compartment on our fridge!!

Fact to consider:

If Tescos can build a new store on Ings Road would they be so interested in building another one one WR?

WR is potentially dogged with problems (transport, ASDA objecting, impact on town ect) where as Ings road has an existing road network that supported another super market.







Could they be chancing their hand with 2 sites?







Go with the city and make them travel (on the bus)

Because its miles from Ings road and won't pick up the same customer base maybe.

To be fair Lumbs ice creams were decent but we were poor in our house!

Yep, that's him. Absolute diamond, and still going strong.

Those were the days when you could go to the grocer, the baker and the butcher, and cross the road to buy your newspaper. Everyone knew who you were.

I used to go down on a weekend with me dad, to the shop down Barnsley Road and get a big tub of Rum and Raisin, which seemed very fancy back in the 80's and a big tub of a flavour called Dairy, absolutely gorgeous ice cream.
