| Quote: eric "to be honest people are giving Jules Rinaldi so paudits and I personally think some of his decision making near the line, especially but not limited to, the first half was appauling. We should have had three or four tries under their posts be we kept either going from half back or trecking on the blind side which was stacked with defenders. That will be Wakeys biggest problem this year, someone who organises to our advantage when we get in the oppositions 20.'"
Thats pretty much how i saw Rinaldis contribution.
He made more mistakes than Penny and at some critical plays, yet Penny seems to be catching alot of the flack which i see as been unwarranted.Yes Penny made two clangers,a slip for the try and dropping a high ball near the end.For my money Rinaldis errors were mainly down to taking the wrong options on some crucial plays.

Rinaldi has a comedy beard though.

| The worrying thing is that this year us like 2006, except with the relegation battle in the first half. We have got to look like a side on the up by early Summer, as if we look as beaten on the pitch as off it, we have no prayer. Putting ground issues to one side, if it is between us and Cas, how could they throw out top 8 contenders, and they may well be, in favour of the league's whipping boys? Even as a Wakey fan, that wouldn't seem right.

That's like saying if Wakey ended up in the top 8 they'd be safe.

I meant based on the fact that if we have a poor season. Taking note that we went into admin and if newmarket isnt on the cards. it seems as though the RFL have made their minds up already unfortunately. the only way i can see us staying in SL is by finishing in the top 8 and having a decent cup run. Just hope we can strenghten the team and make a fight of it, which i think glover will !

| They're looking but theres not much out there that will come.
As for a franchise forget it unless somebody else hits money troubles. The decision is already made.

| Quote: TRB "I wondered about that one, then I thought about the tricky position we are in with our half-backs and hookers!
We have loads of options - Lee / BJ / Rinaldi / Hyde / Harvey / Davey / Wildie / Smith - that's absolutely tons - but do any of us know who the first choices are? Are there really any stand outs in there, or do we have a collection of 'average' players who would be - at best - the back up players anywhere else. And do some of them feel that they are better than that? And do we upset any of them if we then suddenly pick a young player with no-first team experience, but one who just might, might, be brilliant?
I think there are some tough choices ahead for John and Beans - unfortunately that is probably one area where many people think John has a weakness.
This has been a problem for the last couple of years anyway in my eyes. Too often we would have too many pivots in the side and end up slotting em in at 13, then doing big changes during the game. Can't see the point of it personally. We should have 2 hookers each game interchanging with the half backs being on all game. Plus 2 props and a second row on the bench. Keep it simple in our current position. I agree we have too many utilities in the pivots we need direction and the chance to get to gel and form partnerships. To that end to bring back Smith in hindsight was a mistake, I can see why Kear did considering he signed him a few months ago prior to our problems, however as has been said surely Harvey should have played if he was going to drop Hyde after a victory. If not why sign him for a month? I am not confident that we will manage this particular group of players correctly. Easier said than done but if Glover can arrange a prop or 2 I think we can do OK this season because there is promise in some of the younger lads performances, but if we don't beef up the pack and manage the half backs right it will all be in vain imo

Top 8 wouldn't make us safe, but being rooted to the bottom makes it very easy for the RFL.

| We we never going to recover from a very poor start. You can't let any Super League club build up a 16 point lead.
We seriously couldn't handle Stefan Ratchford who was superb, Matty Smith made a bright start with Ray Cashmire bossing the forwards.
Many Wakey fans around me were all for staying to the end, clapping off the young lads for their effort but we desperately need that creative spark and class to provide an attacking option.
I know a few people have knocked Kevin Penny for his gaffs but I thought he always wanted the ball, and took it up quite well yesterday.
Chris Dean was very poor in defence however he was superb by all accounts in Catalans.
PJ dropped the ball 3 times in the 2nd half, all in either promising or dangerous positions. I can't knock the lad though, along with Paul King, he's our best forward.
I honestly believe that if we add about 4 experienced players then we will do ok - I think that's the best we can ask for.

I get this - but this is SL and is a pressure cooker environment. I'm just not sure that he has what is required at this level - based on what I've seen of him at our club. He is so like Paul White - again a willing tryer, but just didn't have that physicality at this level.
Suggested backline for next week:
Murphy, Johnson, Griffin, Dean, George, with Hanvey and Lee at HB and Rinaldi and Davey as Hooker. That would be risky, but could work IMO.

Does Harvey kick for goal?

Agree - however it ain't just Kevin Penny who'd pulled on a Wakey shirt and just 'isn't good enough!'
Couldn't help a wry smile though near the end with the Salford fans singing 'There's only one Kevin Penny!'
I remember we used to sing that.......at Warrington!

| Quote: Theboyem "He's a winger at wakefield, the ball isn't going to ever come anywhere near him. In our coaches setup what a winger needs to do is catch the ball, defend well and help the forwards out by coming in-field and making quick yards up the middle. He didn't do any of that. He cost us two tries from his handling errors alone. That in my book is a terrible game.'" think you are a bit unfair there mate. i'd agree with get em on side. penny came in fr loads of work and under the conditions wouldn't have expected wingers to see much ball and the coaching set up you refer to wasn't the coaching i saw at catalans and the ball was spread . the wingers did a great job. as for lee, i'd keep him partnered with hyde. thought they played well together. as for sundays game, thought we'd lost it in the first 10 mins, when we were caught cold. we always knew it wasn't going to be easy but i they keep giving the effort, i think we will surprise a few. we have already surprised a lot and we have only just started picking the pieces up from a shattered club and i am sure you know that together we are stronger.
