| Quote: roverman "It's not only Wakefield trinity that's lost out what about all the other sporting facilities that were promised for the young people of Wakefield shouldn't the council be fighting for them there's nothing for the young people in the Wakefield area it's a disgrace.'"
In the current economic climate, there are more cutback than an Edward Scissorhands movie but, the Newmarket scandal seems more about lack of desire from the council to ensure that the developer proceeds with the plans that were passed.
Having secured an industrial development (including the community facility), it should have been all systems go and tenants found for the units that were planned (including Newcold) and had there been the will to make it happen by Yorkcourt and the Council, there seems little doubt that by now, there would be some units on that site.
Instead, we have the developer trying to wriggle their way out of their part of the bargain and the council standing by and letting it happen.
Perhaps (and call me a cynic), we have to wait until the "community stadium ) at Glasshoughton is built and then we will be told to play over there.
After all, they are trying to call the Glasshoughton project a community stadium when it will be owned by Castleford ??

Imagine if the council told us to play in a club owned "community stadium" that is not in Wakefield but is owned by the club the council leader supports and has shares in. Whilst the council make money on a development that was only passed due to a genuine community stadium been built, you couldn't make it up.

| It amazes me that Sir Rodney has been impotent / lacking in 'clout' etc throughout this 'sorry saga '. Is it not possible to get the press interested ?

| I'm more surprised by the lack of output from David Hinchliffe.

I believe that he may have been rubbed up the wrong way by certain people hence why he has not been involved anywhere near as much as he was in the beginning.

| I might be wrong here but I'm not sure it's fair to have a dig about Cas. We have got exactly the same as them as far as the developer and local authority is concerned: permission. What they have that we don't is someone willing to fund it. Box might want us to move to Glasshoughton but I'm not sure he's done anything extra. It's what isn't being done that is the issue.

A move away from the ground without a plan to move to a permanent home in the future will be the death of the club. A nomadic club won't survive as people will struggle to follow them around to different grounds every season, the academy would too suffer as they would also need to move and the young lads may not be able to make training.

Reading the news it looks like their deal may also be on rocky ground as the supermarket which had agreed to take the main plot has pulled out. They still have the other retail units, but if they're not profitable enough then the work won't go ahead. They also have a better agreement seemingly due to the council realising their failings with Newmarket development.

Totally not true! Rodders controls things completely!
David Hinchliffe is a Trustee and is offering his advice and assistance where appropriate.
The 3 amigos - SC, IA and myself - are the chewing gum on the bottom of the developers / councils shoe that they can't get rid of!

You're joking surely !!! The council have a duty regarding 106 benefits in that they must ensure they go to community projects and not to private individuals or companies. In the case of Castleford Tigesr RLFC they are a private company and are being gifted for £1 a £13 M stadium. Legal or not, I'll leave that one to you.
Private companies don't go around giving each other gifts, who do you think put the pressure on behind the scenes to facilitate this ?
