Melbourne has originally let Widdop go, thinking they'd get a better halfback to replace however after discussions falling down they wanted Widdop to do a U-Turn on his St George deal. Thus ended up with Ben Roberts who is a decent player.

Roberts can win you a game and lose you one in equal measure. Very skillful and creative but prone to major brain farts and defensively suspect, although Bellamy might have been able to improve it at Melbourne. Possibly the most frustrating and inconsistent player in the nrl he can go from the sublime to the ridiculous in the same game. Worth a punt if the deal is right but i wouldn't pay big bucks for him. He'll probably drive all the fans mad.

Roberts may affect Tim Smith though as Chase effected Tim Smith. I personally would build a team around Smith.

Can't see that been true - but we have been playing guys like Wheeldon and Millington at 13 recently. Not recognised loose forwards. I know Kirmond is a 2nd rower but DP might see him as a 13. We won't pay any tranfer fees anyway so its a non-starter for me.

FFS this is getting as bad as when Glover was around. If a current player has signed a contract why not announce it ?
If for some strange perverse reason he thinks it should be kept secret, then why tweet ?

To create a buzz? Get people talking? People anticipating? I dunno. I don't mind it really, when it is announced doesn't make a difference to me. Probably so news outlets can announce it before he does it personally, also.

Probably timing the announcements to coincide with the season ticket going on sale for next season. Hope it's worth the wait.

Yes that's fair enough and I can understand the commercial reasons for keeping a signing quiet in such circumstances.
However its the childish teasing tweets that I don't see the need for, thought those days had gone when batman and robin left the club.

Nearly every other "release" in the entertainment history has some pre release announcement.
Why follow MC if you don't want to hear anything from him? If you only want to hear the formal announcement, stop following him and wait for the Web Site announcement.
