I notice the Cas ground development is also badged up as a 'community stadium'. I guess this gives the council grounds to claim the district is getting new facilities and enables them to brush off anything to do with Newmarket.

Quote: The Avenger "Well it's a forum, no one is beholden to you or owes you an answer.

FWIW and IMO I think the Council have never really thrown their full weight behind this development despite appearances. They're certainly not showing any urgency or concern now that things look like stalling and Peter Box's attitude towards it stinks'"

I would expect that with the number of members posting such negative comments about the council and it's leader including our chairman the reasons would have more clear. The current complaint is that they don't appear to be showing any urgency but the delay is the fault of others. I am amazed that is all they can be blamed for when I have read such personal accusations of dishonesty and demands for their removal.

Well they can certainly be blamed for the embarrassing lack of sports facilities in the District, a situation that has prevailed for decades and has brought derision from Government institutes.

WMDC are guilty of leading many sports fans up the garden path with regard to the Thornes Park debacle. It is WMDCs planning department, as much as anyone, which has been conned by a less than transparent Developer.

Peter Box, as head of the WMDC, has a constitutional responsibility to do the right thing by Wakefield citizens and his inaction in the face of this dishonest action is nothing short of scandalous.

So Yes, if you want to see where blame can be attached to individuals from WMDC and WMDC itself then there it is.

I am sorry but the reasons given may be correct but does not cover the specific suggestion that the council and it's leader have deliberately got in the way of our development in favour of Castleford. We may not have the greatest sporting facilities but we do have 2 SL and 3 championship clubs all falling into the WF district and all watching that none are shown unfair favouritism.
We are doing it ourselves with this topic suggesting that Castleford are receiving favourable treatment. I cannot trace any evidence of this other than wild allegations from some on here.
We and all the other RL clubs in the district have to take responsibility for the position each find themselves in. It is not up to the council to favour us, if the ground is not developed it is not their fault but that of the people in charge of putting the deal in place. They have put us into a position to develop a new facility but the reason it still remains a drawing on an architects board is that those handling the arrangements appear to have been outflanked by the developers.
I am sure those members closer to the process will know what went wrong but currently this still remains unclear.

I haven't got a clue one way or the other about Box and his feeling about Newmarket. I know there has been a general feeling among the other 2 WF sides that he favors his own side but hey what do we all know when it comes down to it. I will say he doesn't do himself any favours about trying to keep impartial about the 3 clubs, he obviously loves Cas Tigers and isn't afraid to show it.
Then add that to the way he responded to the question possed to him by Sandal Cat on the radio recently about what was happening about Newmaket and the Community Facilites, basically saying not my problem mush, spoke volumes imo.

I'm sure there are those that are close to the project that will be avaible to answer the question more accurately. Form the outside looking in though, he is the head of the WMDC and he put the parties together in the first place and if I was in his position I'd be making a lot more noise about this S106 cock up or whatever it is. Personally I think it woud be a huge feather in the cap for WMDC to upgrade the cities sports facilities and I'd have thought he'd have wanted the glory of making that happen, then again I'm just your averge guy, not a politician.

It's favours NOT favors. Sorry but, I have to contend with the American rape of the English language every day here in the Phils and I expect not to see it when I visit this or any other British forum unless of course you are American in which case it's still "favours"!

Quote: vastman "Give over and join the real world. You couldn't get a playing card between Tory and Labour core policies these days - that ship sailed years ago. The only difference is how efficiently they are carrying out policy - which in Labours case was diabolical leading to them leaving the country virtually bankrupt for the second time.

I'm a non religious - non political animal, I don't need anyone to tell me how to think. However I prefer Tories generally because they (the politicians) generally know what they are, self serving and greedy. Labour politicians and some supporters are the same but seem to take the moral high ground without any justification as far as I can tell. Box is one of these, what we need is someone who care for the city and not his own survival - whatever their politics. I can tell you now having met a rosette wearing Box a few times I can assure you that he had very little compassion about him as far as I could tell.'"

We're stuck with Box at least until the next Labour Government. The very few people that vote at local elections only use them as a protest against the National ruling party of the day. Labour nearly lost their majority in Wakefield when Brown was P.M. but I doubt I'll see a Labour Government in my lifetime looking at the current representatives. Would have liked Scotland the not so brave to have broken away just to make it virtually impossible though.

Can't say I'm really bothered, I just thought I'd be a bit mischievous going off topic by asking a question about Cas's ground on the Peter Box thread.

You make a very good point Chissitt

I'm going to start to keep this to a Cas Ground discussion now.
If we don't have anything to say on t hat any more, we can just let the thread slip away.

Rather than me raping the English language, it was just a genuine spelling mistake mate. That and I'd just got back from a mind numbling boring trip to London and back just for a one hour meeting. icon_evil.gif
