Quote: feline "If the story is true we can hardly complain, we are trying to get the folk of wakefield behind us by promoting ourselves as a family club. If true the cowardly act is despicable and the person concerned should not be at our club. Imagine if the girl involved was your daughter what would be your feelings then ?'"

You're missing the point; the player hasn't been convicted of anything and on the week that the club has been saved from administration, it seems reasonable to expect that Wakefields local paper would show some support for its only pro sports team; this didn't need to be front page news. I don't think that view conflicts with feeling sympathy for the victim and her family and wanting to see justice done.

On a side note - if every player with a questionable incident in his past was kept out of our 'family' game, the pool of available players would shrink quite significantly wouldn't it?

The article printed on the front cover as a lot of you have previously said will always be the one that sells the most "rags". Everything in life is down to money and stats and calculated risks. Wakefield when signing said player decided the pro's far outweighed the con's, whereas the Express decided that by running the story they would sell to more individuals than they would alienate. However, It is understandable that so many of you feel aggrieved with the momentous week you have had in light of the last few months!!

Let’s hope that you carry on getting the plaudits from other media sources (maybe even the Pont n Cas . . . who knows) . . . icon_wink.gif

Good luck for the season and with the successful re-building of the club!!

I think we were a family club the trouble was it was a family of Richardsons icon_mrgreen.gif that I see again in the letters page Feline has thanked but that is her view and I respect that.
The problem I have with this article is that it's Huddersfield news I don't expect to buy a Normanton edition of the express and read whats gone on in Huddersfield icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif

Yes but it became Wakefield's news once they bought the player!! In regards to TV coverage I really do hope that the current wrestling over TV rights will bring about greater coverage as it is ridiculous that our great sport gets so little.

Anyway back on topic . . . I do not believe that the great work been done at Trin will be undone by a single "sensationalist" story!!!

I don't know if this point has been made but by printing this i believe that the express have jepordised the judicial process as this may impact upon whether if charged he can have a fair trial.

It's already been reported in the Daily Mail, and i'm sure WE has just reported that Wakefield have signed a player who has been arrested for this crime.

The best way to hurt this rag is financialy. I just hope that quite a few of its regular advertsers feel the same way as we do and feel their products should not be associated with this paper anymore

Well I bought it, just to read the story. I will decide afterwards whether I want to buy it again in future. I wouldn't want to make that decision if i hadn't read the 'offending' article.

Sent my email to the editor and ceo and coo of johnston press. As below -

I would like to register my disgust and disappointment with the 25/02/2011 edition of the Wakefield Express.

As a regular purchaser of this paper I am totally outraged with the decision to run the story on the front page.

As far as I know this paper is a local Wakefield paper and as the cities only major sport team is Wakefield Trinity Wildcats I would of thought our local paper would be 100% behind the local sport team.

This previous week has been the biggest week in the clubs history, I am sure that a front page story in regards to the takeover of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats would of sold more papers than a story about a player that has been arrested and not charged yet. I have no problem with the story being printed but just cannot understand why it had to be front page news. Surely the 7th or 8th page would of been more suitable.

This is a joke and I will never buy this paper again and know that there are may other people now boycotting this paper and any other papers affiliated with Johnston Press.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have a fan base over around 8000 and this now means you have 8000 less papers sold, in a small city this is a large number. I would also hazard a guess that many companies who are loyal to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats may think again before advertising with this paper.

Your paper is a disgrace and I and many others are very upset that this has happened. Surely a positive story of the cities oldest sporting team would have been a fantastic front page story. Someone has made a grave mistake and the people of Wakefield are looking for answers, where and who is going to provide an apology?

I look forward to hearing your response.

Just one small criticism - and you're not unique in this. It's would have and could have, not would of and could of. Having accused mods on other boards of being pedantic I'm a bit embarrassed about pointing this out, but it really grates when I read it!

Fantastic letter though, and the sentiments expressed sum up nicely the feeling of many Trinity supporters.

Have sent my e mail to the Express too, much on the lines of Crofton Cat's efforts.
