I remember far more teams with less skill and quality especially the seasons following financial trouble many years ago in SL. This team has far more ability.

Me too, but it still doesn't alter the reality of the situation, beat Wigan but lose to Leigh twice, pointless.

You won't get shot down by me. On boxing Day I say some very positive signs, I have watched all the games since then and I am getting a little disappointed about some players. Just hoping Catalan was a bit of a blip and every player steps up and produces their best.
I am sure after Huddersfield next week we will get a more reliable picture of the capability of the team and the quality of many of our players.
Wigan game will give us some clues how they respond, but our next home game should tell us the most.

Doesn`t make much sense though, 2 points is 2 points, beating Wigan or losing to Wigan is not in anyway linked to the Leigh fixtures.

Just trying to emphasise a loss to Wigan away won't be the difference between relegation or not.

Well, I'll be the first then....
We have had worse teams than this one in SL.

| Wakefield Trinity centre Reece Lyne to miss Wigan Warriors trip with 'medical issue'
Reece Lyne will miss Wakefield Trinity's trip to Wigan Warriors with a "medical issue".

The experienced centre, who has represented England on two occasions, was conspicuous by his absence when Mark Applegarth named his 21-man squad for Friday's game at the DW Stadium.
"Reece has got a bit of a medical issue," said the Trinity boss.
When we're in a place to give you a bit more info, we will. I don't really want to elaborate on it. We're still working on that one.

Far too dramatic after 1 game.

| Quote: Kettykat "But if we’re going to concede against Wigan it’s best outside as they couldn’t kick for toffee against HKR so it 4 instead of 6'"
Not sure where this narrative that Harry Smith can't kick goals has come from. Not having he has gone from one of the best kickers in the league last year to a guarenteed miss from the touchline. He was kicking into the pretty bad wind in the first half, something the KR kickers also struggled with in the 2nd.
looking at last years stats, Smith kicked for a 78% success rate over the course, from what i can tell from a quick look only 2 other kickers (who kicked a number of note) beat Smith and they are Ratchford and Hankinson (although worth noting that they both kicked 33/35 less attempts then Smith). If there is one thing i am not worried about from Saturdays performance it is Harry Smith's goalkicking. Now our right side defence, pack performance and overall effort given from the team, that is a whole different story.
I am also not buying the narrative of 2 points vs. Wigan is not as important as 2 points against another team. 2 points is 2 points and all goes against the tally at the end of the season regardless of who it is against. Does it really matter where them 2 points have come from by seasons end? The outlook of aiming for points from certain teams and not others is a very negative view to have and i hope your team / club don't have the same outlook.
Hopefully we get a good competitive game on friday with both teams putting up a good showing of themselves.I have 2 mates joining my usual group for the game, both completely new to the sport so an entertaining game would be welcomed, hopefully they don't decide to become Wakefield fans by the end!
On a side note, have been keeping up with your stadium development on here, looking good! Hopefully funds will become available for the west terrace at some point in the not-so-distant future aswell for a better experience for us away fans.

Agree entirely, we`ve played one game and people are starting to talk about where we need to pick up 2 points to avoid relegation and talking about which wins and losses will make a difference to our survival chances, we should be fighting for every 2 points there are available in every game, as every other team in the league should be regardless of who we are playing. Yes, we aren`t favourites by a long stretch, but again as I said before Catalan we should be going to Wigan targeting a win, if we are doing anything but that then we have got it all wrong. Also just to note, Smith is probably the best kick taker in the league for me.

| I don't think anyone is suggesting Smith can't kick, just that he struggled last week.

| Again, I'm not saying the club shouldn't be targeting a win against Wigan, quite clearly they should be aiming to win every game. All I'm saying is a loss won't be a defining factor as it could be against Leigh, which would potentially be a four point turn around as opposed to just a two.
Picking and choosing games to target as wins has failed in the past so I am no fan of that policy.

Picking and choosing isn't healthy, need to look at being competitive every game.
Summarising back to last year, points wise, I think we were nearer the play offs than going down, 7 of those games, we lost by the margin of a within a converted try. On another day, we could have easily won those.
