| I thougjt he looked quite good on boxing day in fairness. Kyle Trout had an excellent game imo but is not a prop forward. He should be given game time in his natural second row position. Singleton on loan would be fairly cheap, and would provide good cover in the forwards. If we have injuries in the season then we can look at someone else when neccessary. We picked up Sykes and L. Smith mid-season so I am sure someone will pop up. I trust Agar on this one, and therefore will support Brad if he does join the club.

| Trouty has played prop throughout all age group rugby. I think he has only played second row when he was in the first team last season, so about 500 games at prop and 11 at second row.

We had a perfectly good prop in Tom Lilycrop and let him go, we had a good prop called Adam Gledhill- we let him go. There must be method in the madness?'"
Gledhill wouldn't sign another contract and Lilycrop as good as he was in the 20s was a bowling ball with no evasion skills and would of been smashed in the super league
but then that's just a matter of opinion

| I do wonder about all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that accompanies the departure of young players - the last big thing was Cain Southernwood, and I've yet to see him make any impact on SL.
Maybe, just maybe, the people who are paid to take a view on the relative merits of RL players actually know what they're on about?

| Similarly Gareth Moore.
Fine Championship level.
Obviously had that little bit extra missing for level above.

The 500 games Trout has played were not at the level of physicality that is in Super League. He's a compact pacy strong forward who gets stuck in so will go well in the second row when needed this year. Maybe in a few years if he beefs up a bit more then he may go to the front row but for me we'd be doing a 'southern' on him putting him there now.
With Poore, Raleigh, Amor, Wilkes & Singleton as our front row options and Lauitiiti, Kirmond, Mariano and Trout our main second row options I think we'll go fine this next season.
I'm concerned about hooker position with Aiton and Wildie being the only options for the next 3 months with Wood out, missing all pre-season & first month of season.

I'm not - Aiton is a machine and it will be good to see Wildie have an opportunity to put a marker down as interchange.

well john and Bobby G will have to stand up to the hooker role, after all, the hooker is only a extra half back

There's a fair bit more responsibility in defence Bazzo.
I dont know enough about Bobby G junior but, John has nowhere near enough to make 35-40 tackles per game.

So despite the FACTS you still say he's a S/R.
Trout is an average sized Prop, why can't folk accept that instead of making it up as they go along.
He is also every bit as advanced than Singleton - but hey this lads from Leeds and despite most only seeing him play once or twice he's the messiah.
Funniest of all is that Kirmond and Mariano will never be props, have never played prop yet according to you are back up props with a player who's played hundreds of times in that position.
Whether Trout makes it or not only time will tell, but this nonsense about his size and the myth that he is a second row is getting very tedious.
I'm also led to believe Agar rates him in the F/R, but hey what does he know.
Happy new year.

I agree with some things you say here. At this moment in time I am not sure if Trout, prop throughout the years, or not, should be utilised as a prop forward. He may indeed bulk out as he gets older and have more physical impact needed to be a good prop forward.
I rate Trout highly a player, but his evasion, feet and skills with ball in hand make him a good second rower to me. I think pushing him down the prop role just because that's all he has ever been will waste his talent, at this point in his development, as having him used in these positions won't display his full potential at this point in his development and grade of rugby.
On the subject of Singleton, granted I have seen the lad play only once, so my opinion isn't particularly useful, but what I saw on boxing day was a naturally big lad with a good work ethic, he needs to gain some muscular size and strength before he pushes his way up the ladder of props.
Let's hope RA can develop Singleton like he did Amor, then we will have a good prop on our hands.

You've misread my post.
1. Front Row - Poore,Raleigh,Amor,Wilkes & Singleton
2. Second Row - Mariano, Kirmond, Lauitiiti & Trout. None of these are props and I didn't suggest that in my earlier post.
3. Why do the top clubs have 16 stone plus props? R.A. has said himself that he likes a big 8 and he's got that in Poore who does not lack aggression.
You'd have Trout getting smashed as Southern did last season when he played prop. I trust R.A. if he thinks Trout can be his 5th prop why then is he going for Singleton, he's not needed is he?.
Wikipedia states 'Singleton will spend 2013 on loan at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.' Confirmed?
Happy New Year to all that are red, white and blue! Come on the Trin in 2013!
